i had been wondering the same thing ,but given that people were told to patch or lose connection .i imagine chances someone not patching will be slim ,but hey no harm in asking

When did we start to lose the ethernet connection though? Was it before the 15th of nov? From what i can remeber, i lost the gift channels first then i loaded the patch. Can't exactly remember what happened yesterday so can't remember what happened few weeks ago. Lol

I loaded the patch and still have ethernet after 15 months. The patch wouldn't have switched off anything.
Have a look in 'system info' if you do not have' RM' in hardware version then ethernet is finished.Mine with 'RM' will probably go soon.

P.S For what it's worth I've just blown the dust off of my box and booted it up and its still working......But alas my trusty Protek will still take preference!

To be fair before HD became popular my SD5000 was really good and was used all the time, it was the perfect replacement for my trusty Technomate.

But when it came to buying a box for HD channels the Protek with it's packages and it's auto update feature, made me decide to buy it over the HD9000.

However within the space of a couple of months after buying the Protek the HD9000 dropped quite a bit in price, so I decided to by one! The reason for this is that each box could be set up on different servers to provide me a much wider range of viewing.

In brief when it comes down to comparing, the menu's on the Protek are far more user friendly than the HD9000, plus there is no sodding about with usb sticks to regually update it with patches.

But then again in my view the 9000 even scores less than the 5000!
Although the 5000 wasn't set up for HD it's menu's were by far easier to follow and the OSD was nicer and more colourful than the 9000.

Another Bonus is when channels don't clear the loss of having to sift through endless insulting post's on Alshat is something I do not miss!

The box I have Toby is the 9750 HD IP which cost me £270. The Protek MK-I HDTV Full HD Linux Satellite Receiver + Gift from what I hear is a good box and great value for £299

                        Hi Euroslob
I started investigating the Protek after reading some of your posts. Is there a list somewhere of which channels are open on their gift and is it time-limited like the one with the ?
                        Thanks

Protek sellers say the gift is not limited, but it does have breaks in server stabilty.

protek box then would be ideal for all spiderbox users when they lose there precious connection, an do not want to progress any more into the world of satellite tv, to learn, glad to see new users to come on here and ask questions to improve there knowledge, well done chaps.
