Re: Freesat adds 5 channels from Channel 5

    Hi Rob45,

It should open most packages on the popular sats in Europe, including most of the Gift/Ethernet channels - and $ky UK. However I would only use this for testing to get the hang of things, then look for a pay service. The free one glitches more as the day goes on and more people use it.

Some people prefer to enter the details using the remote - others use USB as fandm suggests. I tend to use the remote for these clines because only the port and ID get changed.

If my post was useful please hit the thanks button - cheers!

Is this because channel 5 have made them FTA? Where they encrypted on 28east before, because in London there is a terrestrial to digial switchover happening, and I am wondering if that affected this decision. Why was it not available on freesat before?

unlikely, there are currently 5 channels on analogue anyway, bbc1, bbc2, itv, ch4, ch5

it was raining today and most of the signals were blocked for about 2 minutes and its seems the only channels that were working during those 2 minutes were the channels on astra 1n.

Channel 5 was available on Freesat, but was only one version. The four available on 1N are for different regions, allowing more localised advertising.

5*, 5*+1, 5 USA and 5 USA+1 were encrypted before because of a lack of space on 2D.

My understanding is that eventually the FTA channels specifically for the UK will be on a narrow beam, therefore reducing the footprint and overspill into neighbouring countries in Europe.
