OTE TV launches budget DTH platform

OTE TV launches budget DTH platform
    October 18, 2011

Greek incumbent telecoms operator OTE has launched a new satellite DTH platform on the Eutelsat Eurobird position. The telco is also integrating all of its pay TV services under one brand name, OTE TV.

OTE TV Via Satellite offers two bouquets, the cheaper one, called Family Pack, starting at €14.90 a month and an extended tier, called Full Pack, at €19.90.

OTE TV Via Satellite has more than 40 channels, eight of which are in HD. The Family Pack contains the Greek state broadcaster’s channels, the movies and TV series channels Universal, Fox Life, FX, Sundance Channel HD; the sports channels Eurosport HD, ESPN America HD, Eurosport2, Extreme Sports, ESPN Classic, documentary channels National Geographic Wild HD, Discovery, Discovery Science, Discovery ID; the kids channels Disney Channel, Nickelodeon HD, Kids Co, Baby TV; the lifestyle channels TLC, Fashion TV, World Fashion, Style TV and music channels MTV HD, Mad Hits, VH1 and C Music TV.

The Full Pack also includes the telco’s own sport channels OTE Sport 1, OTE Sport 2 and OTE Sport 3, and the new sports channel, OTE Sport HD.

The operator’s IPTV service Conn-x TV is renamed OTE TV via Conn-x and offers the same pricing and tiering structure as the Via Satellite equivalent. IPTV customers also have access to the VOD services OTE Cinema-on-Demand and OTE Club-on-Demand.

OTE TV Via Satellite is using DVB-S2 -8PSK/MPEG-4. The operator will issue subscribers with a hybrid KAON receiver with Videoguard encryption. The set-top also includes a DVB-T tuner for reception of local and national terrestrial channels.

In order to better compete with the established Nova TV platform, which broadcasts from the Eutelsat Hotbird position, the telco’s satellite receivers come with an 80 centimetre dish and a dual LNB in order to enable reception of the Eutelsat positions of 13 degrees East and 9 degrees East.
