    FX channel returns to Australia

    FX channel returns to Australia

    Louise Duffy | 09-10-2011

The FX channel is returning to Australian TV screens after an absence of eight years.

Fox International Channels (FIC) will launch the subscription channel in March 2012, targeting a male audience aged from 18 to 54.

FX will broadcast mainly US and British content, and will kick off with three key franchises – zombie drama The Walking Dead, The Transporter, and wild west drama Hell On Wheels.

FIC managing director Karin Simoncini said: “We will launch with the first season [of The Walking Dead] and go straight into the second season. We're giving them all the episodes we have got straight off. The third season will be available as soon as it is available in the US.

“We’re incredibly excited to be launching FX next year. It’s a brand that’s known around the world for its edgy entertainment and we’re proud to be creating an Australian version.”

Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s executive director of television, added: “With the launch of FX we will mark another important step forward in the delivery of the best international television content to Australian homes.”

The FX brand is not new in Australia, used from Foxtel's launch in 1995 until 2003 to promote a channel celebrating the "golden age of television", but was re-branded W after the channel moved towards a female skew.

FX aired in Australia from 1995 to 2003 when it rebranded to W to mark a move to more female-focused programming.
