Sky Italia has announced it is now available in five million homes across the country.
Formed in July 2003 from the merger of Stream and Telepiu, the News Corp-owned company has steadily built the subscriber base through a combination of programming and technology.
Two-thirds of all Sky-It subscribers take HDTV while one in three customers hold a MySky PVR. Most recently Sky Go has been launched to take advantage of the growing enthusiasm for tablet devices.
James Murdoch, chairman of Sky Italia and deputy chief operating officer and chairman and CEO, International, News Corporation commented: “It is a great achievement to be chosen by over 5 million Italian families. It is to the credit of Sky’s first-class management team that the company has continued to deliver against a tough economic environment.
Murdoch thanked Tom Mockridge, who ran Sky Italia until July, when he was moved to run the News International newspaper business in London in the wake of the phonehacking scandal.
