Turner Broadcasting comes of age with Cartoon Network HD

As it celebrates the 18thbirthday of its Cartoon Network channel, Turner Broadcasting is to launch a HD version on Sky.

Cartoon Network HD will go live on 14 September, three days before the official anniversary, and is the first HD channel in the UK from the broadcaster behind commercial kids’ brands Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito and CN Too.

Among the shows brought to viewers in HD will be Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Regular Show, Adventure Time and Star Wars: the Clone Wars. Also available to watch in HD will be The Amazing World of Gumball, an animated sitcom which uses a combination of 2D and 3D animation with live-action backgrounds and which will debut on 5 September.

More new shows debuting as part of Cartoon Network’s strong September slate include an all-new re-imagined version of 80s series Thundercats, and new action-adventure series including Transformers Prime, Battle Force 5 and Bakugan Gundalian Invaders.

Said Anthony Lukom, Vice President and General Manager, UK & Ireland at Turner Broadcasting: “The Amazing World of Gumball is a truly unique and visually groundbreaking series which blends 2D, 3D and live action and it demands to be seen in its original breathtaking HD format. We’re thrilled that that this series and many more will be available in HD from this coming September.”
