The Russian channel Sport 1 will begin to broadcast round-the-clock in HD from this Sunday (August 14).
According to AKTR and Comnews, the channel, which is operated by RTR, made its debut in August last year to a potential national audience of four million viewers in 50 cities.
More than 100,000 subscribers will now be able to watch Sport 1 in HD and there will also be a special HD version of the service made available to sports bars across the country.
Despite a slow start, HD services are becoming increasingly popular in Russia. As of this June there were a total of 27 available to viewers, of which just under half (12) were foreign.
Russia’s HD Union estimates the total number of HD viewers in the country to be 139,000.
