DisEqc 1.2 is usually faster than USALS (at least it is on a Spiderbox)

Usals is preset and Diseqc 1.2 is manually set ... Then after making the adjustments in diseqc 1.2, I would resave the position. ... it faster and easier i find.

The comments above are correct. I have been experimenting with USALS recently and it is definately slower for sure, however the reason is because it makes set up of motor positions much easier since everything is calculated for you. Once you lock onto one satellite, everything else is done for you for the others. USALS tries to find the strongest signal every time you move it, like a fine tune, hence why its slower. Diseq has a stored position and will move to it regardless which is why it might seem faster...

Also your dish setup shouldnt really shake because for the satellites you struggle to receive, on a bad day will have no signal. Secure everything from the bracket/pole so that doesnt move and make sure the bracket is not too long.

What box do you have ? Bit more complex to setup on the dm800

DisEqC 1.2 and USALS setup for dm800

If your using DiSEqC 1.2 you will have to set-up the dish positions manually. If your using USALS it should be automatic.
                Here's the USALS procedure Fantom
First make sure the dish is correctly aligned on a satellite, eg Astra 28.2E

                Press Menu
                Set Up
                goto
                Service Searching

                Tuner Configuration
Choose Tuner ALPS BSBE2 (DVB-S2) - Press OK
                Now for your configuration***8230;***8230;..

                Configuration Mode: Advanced
                Satellite : Astra 2A/2B/2D/Eurobird 1 (28.2e)
                Change LNB to LNB 1
                Priority : Auto
                LOF: Universal LNB
                Voltage Mode: Polarization
                Increased voltage: yes
                Tone Mode: band
                DiSEqC Mode: 1.2
                Toneburst: None
                Committed DiSEqC: None
                Fast DiSEqC : no
                Sequence repeat : no
                Command order : committed toneburst

                PRESS OK TO SAVE
Once this is set up on one satellite its easy to sort the rest.
                Go back into reception settings
Highlight satellite and choose the satellite you want
The example here shows Hellas on 39.0E

Now select LNB and right to LNB 1

This will fill in the configuration with your previously set configuration
                PRESS OK TO SAVE
then scroll back up to satellite
scroll left or right to another satellite
goto lnb scroll right this will automatically set that satellite up
keep repeating this on all satellites needed

then do a manual scan or automatic scan.

                  Re: DisEqC 1.2 and USALS.

depends on the location, where you are. you have to point the satellite closest to your location and USALS automatically derive all the other satellites
