Either way, ping is only half of the answer. The ping is the time the server responds, but not the time an application responds. If an application on that server is overloaded, the ping could still be reasonably OK, yet you would wait seconds to get a reply from the application itself!

Ok maybe we are talking about different things....I've done a little bit of research on ecm time and locally its the time it takes for card to respond to a request. Remotely, its the request time over net + card response time (so presumably the ping will get you part of the answer in terms of the request time over the net). The network transmission time depends on many factors: Number of hops, physical distance, quality of peers internet links, network load.

Thats most of the problem though, "Number of hops, physical distance, quality of peers internet links, network load" it is these factors that cause problems, because most peoples ping, upload and download speeds are fine and sometimes we think its faults on our end. Its usually as simple as the better the server, the better quality. However, the servers here are easily the best free servers available on the internet.

Most of these are revealed by a simple ping which gives you the current return time from a request of your computer to a remote server.

What ping does not reveal is how fast the application on the remote server will respond. So in theory, supposing the average ping of your server of interrest takes 100mSec, you could get 10 'answers per second' from this server. In reality, however, you will not even get near to that many answers because the applications you are communicating with also take up time, and mostly significantly more than the ping.

Yep. Again: ping is only half of the answer. But you must ping the server you are interested in, not some 'reference' server elsewhere. So I really do not know why easydigital thought it necessary to reply with this link to pingtest (which is just a small part of speedtest, btw) because this number has very little significance when communicating with a server outside their small set of reference machines. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and a ping to some reference machine somewhere may say something about your internet connection (and theirs) but has only limited value with regards to the 'pudding' of the cccam server you are connection to.
And then again, that server may be top notch with loads of capacity to spare, and their broadband connection may be great, yet you still can't get an answer in time because of some congestion halfway beyond your or their control.

Let's face it: the internet sucks. Try live with it.

You can also cmd in start menu in windows and then ping and server host
