new dreambox

looking to buy new dreambox seen 500s .think it is a clone but how good are they and how easy r they to set up.. had fta101 starview and eurovox in the past....thanks for looking

Hi dreambox don't make the 500 any more so most are clone boxes. I've got one recently and have got problems with it crashing when its cold. I think there might be a section on clone boxes in the dreambox section.

thanks for your reply..a clone box would not bother me if they work!...as budget is an issue...theres plenty for sale at 60 quid..just would like to know if any good or recomend a trusted seller

They may well still be selling the 500 I could be wrong. There are however lots of clone boxes now being sold.

there is no original new 500s boxes in the market. i have a clone one. and there are different kinds of clones too. some have a heatsink on its processor some doesnt, some have different tuner, some have a power on/off switch at its rear side, some comes with 1a adaptor some 2amper. I have read many times that original box owners also encounters some problems. I use mine as an additional receiver. if you use it as a primary-single receiver it may annoy you sometimes.

Clone box is cat in the bag.You dont know what is inside.Its may broke first week,but u may use longer that original.I have clone 2 years and i dont have problems only somethime sistem crash picture freeze and i have to turn of from power but this is rare.

just like peremacedonia said. you don't know what you will get with dreambox 500s. the original is out of production long time ago. everything i clone now, same are better than the others. it make work great, it make broke the third week. some of them have weak power supply so you may have problems using it with disecq motor.
for image i would suggest using evolution 2.7, since the new gemini versions have bomb that disable the clones. evolution is fast and stable image that you can use on clones without problem.

Do you know if the DB 500 would be more stable using a different image im using a non bomb Gemini and it crashes or freezes lots.

usage of others settings-channel lists may increase freezes. if you used that kind of thing try to search channels youself.

additionally reasons for freezes and crashes may vary a lot.

And when epg is downloaded for 2-3 days for many programs then box freeze maybe all memory is full,and need to restart and work again.

The box only freezes when it's cold once it has been on for an hour or so it's ok. Any ideas?

maybe it has problem with some dm part conections where is cold is not make good contact and when it heat its good

i use pli jade image on a clone dreambox 500s, i have had no problems with it other than those that i caused as i was learning about the box. cant fault it really.
