MUMBAI: Times Television Network has finalised 19 December as the launch date of its English movie channel, Movies Now.

India’s first HD English movie channel will be distributed by Times Television Network, which also distributes ET Now.

Star Den distributes the other two channels from the Times Television stable - Times Now and Zoom.

Movies Now will be a pay channel. Says Times Television Network MD and CEO Sunil Lulla, "Times Television Network is proud to announce the launch of another contemporary brand – Movies Now. It complements the urban focus of the network, where it has met with great success via Times Now, ET Now and Zoom. Movies Now challenges the status quo of the category to ensure the audience the best of entertainment.”

The channel will be available across analogue, digital cable and DTH platforms throughout the pop strata of 1 million+ towns in India.

Says Movies Now channel head Ajay Trigunayat, “With exhaustive quantitative & qualitative research & analysis, we have put together a very well thought through Movies library & FPC to resonate Indian viewer preferences who love to watch many Popular Hollywood Blockbuster titles again & again & again, to name a few - Rocky 1-6, Pink Panther 1&2, I Robot, Night at the Museum, Never Back Down, True Lies, Titanic and 36th Chamber of the Shaolin."

The channel is looking to enhance the viewing experience through better technology. Says an industry observer, "Having said that, there are not many HDTV sets in the country. Also, for cable operators there is not enough bandwith. Even for DTH, you need HD boxes."
