Pls help(beginner)

Suppose I have a simple Laptop with win8 installed. And i want to watch any live tv channel. So question is How i can setup this in order to get stream and watch in vlc .What is the procedure?
For example , We find streaming links to watch channels online.
How do they do? what this procedure looks like? pls help.

The procedure is very simple...

- You have to find an iptv link
- copy the link
- open VLC
- paste the link
- enjoy the channel (play will begin automatically. If not, the link doesn't work)

If it's possible to find a m3u file, this file contains many channels in a ready made list.
Open this file with VLC and enjoy all the channels.

For dummies:
1. Open VLC.
2. At the top left corner, click Media and then click Open Network Stream.
3. Paste URL and then click PLAY.
4. If the link looks like this:
http://servername:8000/get.php?username=xyz&password=xyz&type=m3u
a list of channels will be opened and you will double click the one you choose
