    "This recording is encrypted"

Here's a question. I sometimes record things on my Technomate Twin OE. I have a valid cline in place, and it works fine for live viewing, but when I try and watch the recording I get a black screen and an odd programme length.

When I use TSDoctor on it, I get "this recording is encrypted" back.

Has anyone else had that problem, any idea what it might be?

Which image are you using on the box?

Do you have this same problem with FTA channels recorded?

Check in what movie file you have made your recordings and if you player-receiver ia able to play this kind of files.

          Re: "This recording is encrypted"

Hi chaps, I'll answer these in one post,

          Image is VIX 3.0.649
I haven't had the problem with FTA recordings
And the recordings are of channels that work okay on the box, live, but when I record I get a weird record duration (say 8000 minutes) and a black screen.

This happened the other day when I recorded the end of something I'd been watching on the box.

Files won't play either on the reciever, nor when I transfer the TS to my computer.

          cheers for the speedy replies!

            Ok, I use VIX too.

Go through the menus as follows:

Menu > Setup > System > Recording settings

Then look for 'Default recording type'. I think it's the very last option on the list. Change the settings available under this option, there are three types of recording. Try all three and see if the recording works as you would expect.

              Re: "This recording is encrypted"

Just had a look online for a fix and it seems it is a problem with the image itself, so I guess you will either have to put up with it, or try downgrade to a previous version if it had worked before on an older image. Hopefully Purenirvanas troubleshoot helps but it doesn't seem likely from what I read... I don't actually have your box to experiment and try and fix it either, but let us know if you manage to solve it and how!

I'm still on build 3.0.627, and, as I'm still on an older version, I have to agree I haven't had this problem. I know the VIX team have experimented somewhat with recording ECMs alongside the recording. I reported problems to them with this feature when using OSCam.

TechSatFan, which softcam are you using?

I think you are missing codecs to view it, or choose settings for recording, other audio file format to display

Thanks, I will have a go.

The only problem is, it's intermittent. So while a lot of movie records fail, other stuff works.

                    I'll look in to it.

                    Cheers again

                    CCCam 2.2.1

When you say ECM recording, what does that mean? The file would be stored encrypted, then decrypted on playback?

Yes, that is one of the options. The video recording is made and copies of the ECMs are also kept.

                      The three options are:

                      1) Decrypting the video at the time of recording and also keeping copies of the ECMs.

                      2) Keeping ECMs and then using these to decrypt on playback.

                      3) Not keeping ECMs and decrypting as the video is recorded.

Have you tried the latest CCCam, version 2.3.0? It might be worth trying a different version to rule that out as the cause of your problem?

I haven't tried 2.3.0, I didn't even know there was a new one! Will upgrade and see if that improves things.

                        Cheers

Yeah, 2.3.0 has been out a fair while. Experiment with those record settings and also with different softcams. If 2.3.0 doesn't help you could try switching to OSCam or MGCamd as alternatives.

How can the codecs vary from FTA to Encrypted recordings?

If any channel is recorded, it should record to only one format that plays with certain codecs, the FTA/encrypted channel choice shouldn't affect it I wouldn't have thought...

I agree, this isn't codec related. FTA and encrypted channels are recorded using the same codecs, the fact TechSatFan's FTA recordings always playback proves this.

The fact that the fault is intermittent on the encrypted recordings also suggests to me that a codec issue isn't to blame.
