    Replacing SkyHD Box

    Hi there friends,

I want to replace my skyhd box with a satellite box.
Are there any boxes out there that will let me watch one channel whilst recording another? a friendly user interface that can display tv guides, and allow me to record a series and or future programs.

    Thanks

Vu+ ultimo, vu+ duo, gigablue quad, etc all have two or more tuners, allowing you to watch one channel and record another. They also have 7 day epg and auto timer, which is not quite as perfect as series link, but as good as you can get on a linux receiver.

      hi

look for any box with twin tuners - also note your setup must be prepared for twin receivers (2 cables).

Also need to be prepared to read up a bit and teach the family how to use it.
Linux receivers really are great when you know how they work.
There will be the new vu+ range coming out soon, and the gigablue quad has only just been released, so you'll be spoilt for choice in a few weeks time.

What about dreambox, heard a lot about them?

the VU boxes are quite dear. Any other boxes that are reasonable?
I also want to be able to ftp into the box using server software, ie DCC

          Thanks

The dm800se and dm800hd are single tuner recievers, so you could only watch and record at the same time on the same transponder. This limits you to only a few channels.
In order to be able to watch and record any channels simultaneously from the same satellite, you need a twin tuner with 2 cable feeds.
You could get a DM8000 original at £850, but they did stop producing them some months back.
A clone DM8000 is around the same price as a vu+ Ultimo original, which really is the nuts.
Then there are the new range of gigablue and vu+ receievers which will blow everything else out of the water in terms of power.
****** the specs and compare them. Gigablue quad is out already.
Vu+ Solo2 and Vu+ Duo2 will be released shortly, price unknown.
Out of the receivers currently available with 2 or more tuners, I reckon it's the Vu+ Ultimo or the Gigablue Quad.
Give it a couple of weeks and that will most likely change To the Vu+ Duo2.
On a budget the Vu+ Duo costs around £240 from Germany. But it is 4 years old now and pretty dated.
With all of the above boxes you can FTP.
