      I agree with mahrkpat

Enjoy you box as it is

Your box is a closed non linux box which means that you can't add applications.

If you want something more that you have now, maybe you must buy a better linux based receiver such as dreambox or vu+.

there is an external tool to connect to the port DHMI that sends the signal to a receiver?

It would be better if you tell us what exactly you want to do with the receiver.
Do you want to send or take stream?

Btw , DHMI port does not exist. Do you mean HDMI ?

If yes, you can describe in detail what do you have in your mind in order to help you.

Yes, I mean the HDMI port.
I would like to send the video stream I see in the TV to a PC.
What you see in the TV must be viewed simultaneously on the PC.
            thanks

              Re: Openbox and VLC

I think that the easiest way to do what you want, is to take video signal from the receiver with RCA cable and to connect it to a video in port on your PC (vga).

In this case, your receiver must have more than one video out port (for example 1 scart and 1 rca) or HDMI port that can work simultaneously with a second port (hdmi or rca) in order to watch on your TV and also send the video to your PC.

Also, your PC must have vga card with video in port.

What is the maximum length of a cable connection?

                  hi Sardosat

That depends on the type of cable: hdmi up to some meters (longer ones than eg 2m: take a good one, but not cheap!), utp up to 100m, same for coax (but I experience some loss - mine's about 50m but has some connectors to connect the different pieces of coax). And ... fiber optical some km's ...

                  What cable did you mean?

                    Hi Sardosat

I think that using cable with RCA connectors you will not have any problem with the length of the cable.

For hdmi cable there is a limitation but also depends on the signal quality you want to transfer.
Generally, I wouldn't use an hdmi cable more than 5m.

I would use an RCA cable to transmit audio and video. The synchronization between audio and video is maintained?

                          Re: Openbox and VLC

                          Your concern is right.

It's possible the synchronization of the audio and video to be lost because of the long cable especially on HD channels.

Personally I can't tell you for sure if you will have problem or not, because I don't use such a long cable.
I use a tv signal- transmitτer to send the signal to another floor.

Many people suggest not to use the normal cable for rca connectors for longer distances and encourage the users to use a thicker cable called RG59.

Unfortunately, you have to make some tests with the normal cable which is cheap enough by your self to see if you have problem with the synchronization or not, and if you notice some delay to audio or video to test the thicker cable RG59.

                            Re: Openbox and VLC

I wonder if this could be an option -http://www.amazon.co.uk/1080p-1080i-wireless-Video-Sender/dp/B004FE92BA still might need something to grab the signal for your computer though.

Also the option with cable is viable but also with this you will need something to grab the signal, look at the costs and the effort you will incur by doing this. These days you can get a clone linux box for under £100 with this you will not have to mess around with cables etc..
