Only thing I can think of is to do a factory reset or reflash firmware but
do not do this if you bought it with a gift.

If you are going to this save your settings using a usb or X3 Lan_Tool.

To turn the subtitles off you have to go into the main menu and the settings setup where your audio is located switch them of in there and restart the box

As I said in previous post reflash or reset is the next option you have or
if bought with a gift have to wait until it runs out looked at the manual
but did not help, when you pressed subtitle a option should have
          appeared to switch on/off.

Subtitles are not available for every channel. If you are watching a channel without subtiles from the provider and you press Subtitles key on your remoteit will go back to the main menu. If you are atching one of the main channels likes sky or BBC and press the key on your remote, it opens another menu which shows the subtitles language or Off.

Press SUB button and put on off when they appear first time
Usually is to be done after every firmware upgrade...
