Openbox 10 vs 12 Newbie

Hi guys,

I am totally fresh with receivers but I have a technical background (Work as a IT consultant).

I have 4 dishes at home pointing every direction. I want to buy a receiver and this will be my first. I am only interested in getting channels like canal digital and sky channels. As I stated earlier, im total new and I have tried to read myself wiser but I hope you can help me out. What would you suggest for me concerning my needs. Openbox version 10 or 12. I have a 50 inch hd flat screen so the reviver should have good hd pic quality.

I live in norway so if you also can help me finding a shop that ships here I will be ever graceful. I also need help finding servers and setting up the receiver. I Hope someone can help

Out of the two I think the s10 is better, but make sure it's an original as there are loads of clones about.
I would recommend a different receiver though.
Dreambox or vu+ are very good.

If it is the budget you are thinking of go for the Openbox F3 it is the same price as the S10and S12 and has better tuner & chipset.
But of course if not the budget then go for a Dreambox.

Please be careful and make sure it's original.
If you load incorrect firmware on a clone you can brick your box.
From what I've read,s10 is better and more supported.

S12 seems to be a clone of the S10 and you have to do lots of research so as not to brick your box.
Personally, if I had to get an openbox. I'd go for the S10 as it's better supported and seem to be less clones about.

The S12 is just an updated version of the S10 with a nwer chipset and different menu system, As for local suppliers to Norway your best bet would be to try a ceratin auction site and find a seller that does worldwide shipping

Ask the seller for the chip ID before you buy an s10.
If your chip ID is one of these numbers
00D0,00EA,085B,0D0C,98A1,98F2,9CF4,9D1A,1015,0D7E, 38EC,10AA,1466,10AA,113C.
Then it's an original.

i would go for the s10 as it is more supported but all in all they are more less the same and S12 has less output options and a different kind of connector for the RS232 serial cable.

S12 is comparitively new in the market so support wise S12 is not the best choice. S10 is widely supported on many forums around the world. Go for the one with more support so in case you are stuck then you can get help easily.

Agree with the points raised so far...but if you're looking at Openbox don't discount the S11 either. Good price. Great picture. Decent performance.

I have an openbox S11. As you said, Good picture quality with 1080p, Small size and a common Interface too. Bought if for £56 on fleabay. The trouble starts again when you are looking for support. There are so many question still unanswered for my S11. You can't do many tricks with it but you straight away upload a line from USB, pop in the ethernet and its up and running in less than few minutes.
