    hi

I suggest you do a lot of reading here in the different receiver setions!
Depends on what your pc knowledge is and what do you want (server box, client box, box with some kind of own freeserver, ...) If you want an open linux - server you should go for a DB or VU+, but pc knowledge needed.
    Is my opinion.

Openbox is ok for a starter box but wouldn't be my choice. Only has a limited epg and is closed source.
I think dm800se or vu+ are much better choices.
Or even a Blade 7000 s for a really easy to use stb.

        hi zafsaq,
well at least you have started with the best site on the web for help.
why them 2 boxes in particular, i see you got the best tool also (motorised dish).
if you can afford go for a dm or one of the vu range, but if you not to experienced start with a basic one, as long as you can enter lines etc you will receive in time most chns, as suggested do some reading and a few questions and things will be a little clearer.
myself i use a bog standard 7000spider, which suits my needs, and can receive most channels going.
Do not send me iptv/cline requests,

technical or iptv/cline server questions in PM!

        I will not answer!

Hi Zafsaq, Openbox or skybox are good for a newbie or a small budget. If you only want to be a client then they will work as long as you are not bothered with the personalised menus, flashy UI and some other apps to impress your mates. Supportwise, Openbox 9 or 10 are better. Little support for S11 and S12. Picture Quality, S11 is the King in the family.

Ultimately it comes down to what you can afford and what you want the stb for.
If you want a cheap box to watch telly and not bothered with plugins, epg, etc. Then openbox is for you.
If you want to share cards, get great plugins and have a full 7 day epg then dm or vu+ are what you should look at.
If you want twin tuner then that's a whole different story.
Oh and welcome back Micro. Hope you had a great holiday.

Be careful with open/sky box as there are a lot of clones out in the market. Confirm the Chip ID before you buy. Here are a few Origional Chip IDs for Openbox
              00D0
              00EA
              085B
              0D0C
              98A1
              98F2
              9CF4
              9D1A
              1015
              0D7E
              38EC
              1466
              10AA
              113C
              14D5
              1474
              0110
              1509
              15AE
              15CB
              15FA
              1801
              It gets updated regularly

Re: which open/sky box for starters

That is also the advantage a clone vu+ has over a clone dreambox or openbox.
You don't patch the image/firmware but you patch the stb itself.
So once you have done this you can use original image.
Saying that, vu+ have just released new drivers in the latest images so we're waiting for a fix from the Ferrari team before we can use latest images.

Re: which open/sky box for starters

Openboxes are good cheap starter box but if you want to do more with your sat receiver then go for dreambox or spider box.

If you going for a openbox go for the F3 supposed to have a faster processors and better tuner and always try to get original not clones.

Before making a decision always do lots of reading and look at the opinions of the various users.
Also look at the help section to see what problems are cropping up.

Re: which open/sky box for starters

As £200 is a good budget so my suggestion will be to forget about open/sky box and consider buying a VU+ Solo or Duo. As you have a motorised dish so you don't need a dual tuner. Go for an origional Solo which is about £180 from the UK retailer and stay worry free. Its an ugly box but the results are impressive. There is lots of support and so much stuff available online that you will be surprised. For a £50 extra you can get Uno from the same family but Uno is faster, good looking, plug and play and future proof.
