    Ariva 252 Combo problem

    Hi Friends at satlover.eu,

I have a big problem: today I received the decoder in subject (bought online) and when I try to switch it on, nothing happens.
No display signs, nothing... The TV-set remains black, no signs of life.

    Any ideas?

    Please help me!

    Thanks a lot

    Sounds strange.
Electrical Power and power switch at the back of the receiver is on?

          Thank you for answering.
Lights are off. TV-set connected either via scart or hdmi, no difference.
I read the other post: does it mean that the decoder, out of the box, is not working and needs programming?
That's sound weird. It's not mentioned in the manufacturer site, as far as I have seen.
Thank you for sheding some lights on this.

If you do not turn on no led, probably the power supply is broken because it does not supply

I don't think this model has a status led, it has only a little display showing numbers or letters..

If you have a program or a flash failure, the box will interrupt the start routine and in your display appears "ASH" after 3 or 4 seconds.
If you turn the power on, and nothing happens (not even in the display), you surely have a power-supply (hardware) failure.

Try to contact the online store where you bought the product. Tell them your problem and then send back the receiver to them and they will fix it for free if there is guarantee on it. You cannot lose anything with this solution.

If my post was useful to you, please push 'thanks' button.

                    pay attention

if you go ahead with flashing the genuine firmware,

you'll probably void the guarantee !

                      Perhaps a last try/solution.
Uprade via rs232 - if you upgrade via rs232 the display stays dark untill the data-transmission starts. Perhaps there's your problem.

Look for the flash update program on the ferguson homepage and upgrade the actual firmware via rs232.
Perhaps this helps to make your box working as it should be.

                        Re: Ariva 252 Combo problem

by the way, can you telnet your Ariva 252 Combo ?
                        or http
                        or ftp

                        how to do this ?

let's suppose your box is working (!), but black screen,
                        if the dhcp-client is started, and if the eth0 is properly configured by your local dhcpd server, the box should have a ip;

scan your lan to find the box ip, let's say 10.0.0.1

                        then try this
                        - the icmp test

                        ping 10.0.0.1

                        - the tcp.telnet test

                        telnet 10.0.0.1
                        root
                        dreambox

                        - the tcp.http test

                        firefox 10.0.0.1
                        firefox 10.0.0.1:81
                        firefox 10.0.0.1:8080
                        firefox 10.0.0.1:16001

                        - the tcp.ftp test

                        ftp 10.0.0.1
                        root
                        dreambox

                          Sorry, but this won't work.
The avira has no ftp or telnet.
And the network only gets enabled if the system has started correctly.

Only chance to connect is via rs232 and nullmodem-cable.

                            @Satphoenix

ok, but still, the ferguson configure himself his network interface on your lan, maybe by dhcp,

                            and the network is enable

let me tell you this story:

                            - step 1
i (still) have a thomson modem-router with 1 ethernet slot (no switch).
i was not so happy with the configuration clicware (by software) or by webintreface (http)
but the clicware has the function to upload the config file onto my pc

                            - step 2
one day i scanned my home lan, including this thomson, and i saw he has open port
i tried telnet and ftp with my access login and password

then i gain access to the console config command

all this was written nowhere ( and i didn't know about networking )

and after a while on yahoo, i found the config tech doc -> hourray

                            problem solved !

                            conclusion
i suggest you to scan all the port of your ferguson an try it this way to get in

                              hi Jepi

Sorry to jump in only now, but - may seem stupid - are you sure or did you check: correct input on your tv, are your cables working fine (hdmi, scart - check with another device), no switch on the back of the box, did you try with another tv+cable. Otherwise, as suggested by other good members, try to get in contact with your pc (or router, but won't be so easy with a serial RS232 crossed nullmodemcable).
But to be biggest chance is a broken power supply ...
If you just bought it and it's new, I wouldn't mess too much with it (no alternative firm) and try to get in contact with your online seller and try to get it solved under warranty (replacement or perhaps money back).
Good luck and keep us informed please, can probably help others.
