memory lost when battery removed !

Clarke tech / Xtrend ET-9000 owners

*** The backup battery in the receiver must never be removed.

The receiver loses his memory and the receiver must be reprogrammed by the chip manufacturer.
It takes times and money !

Have your ever heard about this ?

Yes, I have already heard of it. This happened because of hardware issues. Another weakness of this receiver is the blind scan function. You have to do 4 scans to get a complte scan.

well, for a newbee, all this seems as a jungle !

limited life time of dongle battery of vital memory and boot
suspicion on quality and stability of available images, even from genuine out of the box
linux driver not yet ready ( for most recent cpu)
      timebomb boot
proceed 4 scans to get one correct
hbb-compliant, but test report says it is not

all this is good to kown before buying the next hd dvb-s2 rcvr

I have read that is one measure of security from the manufacturer (against clones). The manufacturer says that this battery life is approx. 15 years. Anyone can confirm?

I am with one eye on the ET6500 model. What do you think of this model?

        regards

The ET9000 suffers many drawbacks one is the Battery for the Flash chip the Life expectancy on this is 5 Years or so Xtrend quoted, Tuner 2 suffers from not being able to handle SR 30000 and picture breaks up this is due to a tuner problem and a Crystal that needs replacing.

The Blindscan may take 4 sweeps but it takes the same time and is as accurate as most as it sweeps V/L,V/H,H/L,H/H this is another bug in the software that never got fixed.

I believe the later models the ET9500 and so on do not suffer anything like the above problems

Sad news and many problems in a few years with this receivers!

It's true that there's a security board in the receiver (called sec-board) against clones. When you boot the box this sec-board is checked in the booting routine.
And it has an own battery, but the lifetime is about 3 to 5 years!

In german boards it's discussed what to do against this sec-board battery problem! No solution yet...
If the battery is empty or damaged, that's it with your receiver and it's more or less scrab!
Some Xtrend have the same problem.

Re: memory lost when battery removed !

I can't tell details of every receiver, but I heard that some receiver already have that problem. I've also read in a german forum that a user has tried to change the battery and his box is defenitly damaged.
For me it's definitly a construction error.

Newer models (but this are rumors) should not have this problem. Some users are trying to change the boot-routine that the sec-board is no longer used. I have a Xtrend4000, so I also have to wait and see what are real facts and what are rumors.

                  hi,

should it be possible to join an additional second twin battery ( in parallel) , with a diode ?

Re: memory lost when battery removed !

It's a pity, because the xtrend receivers have good picture quality, materials and support.
I am even inclined to replace my dm500s by the et6500. I got confused!

                    regards

EDIT: Another problem that i have read is: the box does not always start from the Deep Standby - et4000/6500...

                    regards

                      This I can't confirm.
My et4000 (up to now) regulary starts with no problems. But if the sec-board battery is empty, you should have problems.
