I have a sunray4 running openpli 2.1 kernel 2.8.18.
Before I try OpenPLi-unstable-dm800se nightly image can anyone tell me what it is and if possible what is updated between each image.

Unfortunatly the openpli team doesn't announce the differences or what changes are made in each nightly image that is released.
Installing the latest release you can find, you must be certain that you have the newest update.

Just be careful, because you have a clone sunray4, and in this box you can't install these images directly from openpli.
These images can be installed only on original dreambox or on some clones as yours but with a8p sim card.

Just be sure about your sim that you have and if it's something different from a8p sim try to find a patched openpli image that suits your sim and your bootloader.

Nightly builds, expecially if they have "unstable" in their name, don't sound to me as a safe choice.
Not to forget what kalpikos pointed out, i.e. you could end up with a "no ca" error if you don't care about the sim and ssl in your clone receiver.
