    Strange DM500s LNB/Antenna problem

Hi, I brought my first DM500s today, I spent the last month researching and I thought I knew exactly what I needed to do but instead I have a problem. I cannott get the coxal cable to fit into the LNB input or output at the back of the box. I literally had a working sky box which I removed, in the back of that I had 2 antenna cables (1 for my areal and another from the sky dish) and neither of them will fit because they are to big. I was thinking i could remove the head of the cables which would just leave the wire and insert that but it doesnt seem right. They both look like this and the middle part of each is to big for the small holes in the dreambox.
The weirdest part is tho even tho my Dreambox even says DM500s on the front, the 2 connections on the back for the wires are labeled "Ant" for antenna input and output, this is how a DM500-C/T should be labeled for cable, and a DM500s should be labeled as LNB for satellite. Its almost like i have a DM500s made for cable.
Thought this was interesting but maybe im just making a stupid mistake, any advice welcome.

    Re: Strange DM500s LNB/Antenna problem

    hi BeverleyDarcy and welcome!

Perhaps there isn't a sat-tuner (dbv-s) in your db, but as you said another tuner (cable or terrestrial as you say). In is for input and out can be used to go to another receiver or sat-tuner (loopthrough).

Mostly I've seen sattuners with connectors with thread (in and out are the same) and others for terrestrial just to push in (male/female - in and out are different).

Can you post some pictures of the cable and connectors? Could be easier to help you.

I'm afraid it's indeed wrong labeling, contact your suplier, try to exchange or get your money back, also I would purchase hd model, more and more channels broadcast in mpeg 4 or hd, sd receiver can't open those channels

Can you upload photos to watch what's going on?
It is very strange all you tell us about connectors don't fit.
If we can see phisically the problem perhaps we will be able to help to you.
        Best regards.

          hi BeverleyDarcy

I agree with runmo: really better to try change it to a hd receiver (dvb-s2 tuner) - not only for hd channels, don't know the sitation in your region, but here (Europe - Belgium and Netherlands) more and more sd channels need a hd-receiver because they are transmitting in mpeg4 (and thus hd receiver required).

Is it a clone device? Where have you purchased the dreambox, in your country or china?
If you can exchange the receiver, do it. I think pan1100 and runmo are right and the best option is resend, or exchange your dreambox because you need a sat device and the tuner built in your dreambox is not available for sat broadcastings.
            Best regards.

hi if your box is new then a little force will help. if its a Chinese clone then some times the first time that the wire will enter the hole is stuffy. the F connector srew is ok?

                Re: Strange DM500s LNB/Antenna problem

Does it actually say DM 500 S in front of the box? If it does then might just be
a poorly manufactured Chinese clone using cheap badly made connectors.
My advice like the others have given is to return stating that your standard F
connectors do not fit this box, if it new why would you want to try to modify so
                the cable connects?

                  Re: Strange DM500s LNB/Antenna problem

DM500s is a great piece of hardware with a great support but is becoming part of the history. Many people still uses it for server - they say it have a great stability! But for our days an HD box is mandatory - try to exchange the dm500s or clone!!!

                  regards

                    Hi mate
You probably you have bought a dm500c and not adm500s.
Try to contact with the store that you bought the box and explaind to them your mistake.
As said the others if you can buy something else with HD , do it.
                    I suggest you a dm800se clone.

Yes, I agree with kalpikos. It sounds like you have a DM500c and not a DM500s.
Whether it's your fault or your suppliers is another matter.
As already stated. Photos would be nice.

                        Re: Strange DM500s LNB/Antenna problem

From the other point of view, somebody had faceplate replaced as it would look like DM500s but actually that is DM500c.

As all said, if you can return it for refund.

                        All the best.

... Plus i suggest you to go with the HD model as even when you don't need it today (ie. SD tv), tomorrow it can be useful (ie. HD tv).
