        Re: Data grabbing with dreambox

the internet charges are kind of high I would be interested in getting a cheaper option. I have heard about this but unfortunately the guy who was supposed to hook me up didnt come through. I have a clone of the dreambox 500s. Is it possible to get internet via this method using skygrabber or Skynet?

There are many "data" transponders that are continuously sending data with tcp/ip protocol (avi, mp3, zip, rar, iso ... whatever).
Skygrabber is the pc sowtware that allows to receive this data and assemble it in files.
AFAIK there's no way to know what you are going to receive in a given moment (it's a kind of "blind download") and DM can be used in combination with this sw in case your pc has no dvb card.

for some people its a hobby. Just for fun.

You receive a lot of data but you have to select it. Sure its a wide range of interests and depending on the satelites beams.

I got this reply from _support@skygrabber.**

How do I connect Skyg to dreambox over wireless network? Which ports to use or do I have to set up port?

I think it's not work in this version. This feature will be in the future versions.

How to Set Up SkyGrabber with Dreambox

Turn on the Dreambox and go to the main menu.
Select the Setup entry and type the PIN to get access to this section.
Enter the Expert Setup menu and select Communication Setup.
Write down the IP and port, for example "192.168.1.3" and "80."
Double-click the SkyGrabber icon on your desktop to start the software.
Go to the Main menu and select the Options item.
The Options window pops up inside the SkyGrabber main window.
Click the Interface tab. Click the "..." button in the Folder to Complete Download Files section, select a folder using the resulting file browser and click "OK." This is where your downloads will be saved.
Select different folders in the Folder for Temporary Use and Folder to Incomplete Download Files sections.
                        Click the Dreambox tab.
Type the Dreambox IP address in the IP text box.

Click "OK" to save the settings and close the Options window.
Click the Provider drop-down box in the top left corner of the SkyGrabber window.
Select Dreambox Provider from the list of providers.
Click the blue arrow next to the Provider box to start downloading. SkyGrabber should successfully connect to Dreambox.

Which port does the dreambox use to connect? I have tried all known ports.

It' port that dreambox uses for streaming.
It should be 8080 or 31339

Thanx . I missed the Dreambox Provider in left upper window. I have it connected now, but still no downloads.
I take it the Dreambox must be on data frequency to provide signal.
