How to improve video quality in ProgDVB?

Hello, I have ProgDVB 6.86.04 installed.

The quality of the image is not very good and I am sure it could be better. I have a good graphics card and computer, so it's probably something to do with codecs.

At the moment this is how I have the options on the program:



Any suggestions on how to improve the picture quality in Prog DVB?

Try the elecard plugin that's included with Progdvb . It works very well for both sd and hd . Even though it's a trial , it will let you know what to expect with your hardware . Also check that you have an up to date driver for your video device .

The poor quality video most likely is because of poor quality of broadcasting. There are so many channels, eastern the most on sats like 13E broadcasted on a very low bitrate so you can see square artifacts e t c. If you experience problems like this - you won't improve the situation.
If every channel shows poor quality picture - you may try to install another decoder. Which one - depends on your hardware, video subsystem the most. If you have nvidia card - i'd recommend nvidia decoder for mpeg2 and coreavc for avc, alternetive - LAV video for both with CUVID support turned on.

My graphics card is the ATI Radeon HD 7970.

Movies have great quality. It's just progdvb that I think has low quality(I compared it with the same channels using the satelite receiver). I have a SkyStar2 on the PC. It's not the HD version.

the codec your using aren't too bad, but i recommend you using arcsoft for MPEG-2 and Mainconcept for H264/AVX , which you can download latest version of ArcSoft here:

and also use Prog demultiplexer in setting.
properly the channel you are watching have low video resolution so the quality is not good ( im saying it because the codecs you selected are good also )
every channels have bad quality or SD one or HD ... ?

Videorenderer is also important.
That's to choose especially relating to your operating system.

I'm not sure about ProgDVB, I use DVBViewer, and there you can open media file. If movie file played in DVB app with good quality, but SAT broadcasting - with bad, so it means poor quality SAT broadcasting.
You have to bear in mind also that TV broadcasting uses field based video (movies has progressive video for they are frame based), that may be "combed" so you will need to plug in some deinterlacing filters.

I completely agree, but only one thing: DvbViewer can use also different codecs for different sources (see option).

I think viewer app. is very important in order to get a good quality. I have tried ProgDVB, DVBViewer, and many more, and for me the best is DVBDream, smoother, very good image quality and very good performance.
Codecs are very important too. I have installed HDCodec Pack V.2.4 (freeware) and I use arcsoft for MPEG2 and HD. It works fine with very minimum consumption of pc resources.
So on, there are many channels with a poor broadcasting quality, very low bitrate, so is impossible get more quality.
Try DVBDream instead ProgDVB and then tell us your experience.

i can suggest coreAVC for HD and elecard for not hd..and a good rendering.. i use video mixing renderer 7.. it works better than 9

I think that Video mixing renderer 7 is actually the only choice if you have Windows XP

ofcourse in some cards like nvidia you can install pure video decoder
these programs and like it cause the quality of picture become better

I tested many diferent codec and I think this is best combination.
