Big problem, SkyStar HD2 lose DVB-S2 signal

Does anybody know what can be the cause of this?
I searched the web and I've found numerous people have exactly the same problem but without solution.
It happens randomly, sometimes it works 1-1.5 hours, but sometimes it is 5-10 minutes and it's really annoying. Signal goes down to zero and restarting DVB player doesn't help so I have to reboot my PC and then signal comes back. DVB-S channels work fine.
I would suspect card malfunction, but it works flawlessly on my second, very old PC (VIA KT400A, Socket 462 board). I tested multiple times, once it was 30 hours straight. So then I suppose it must be something with my main PC with Asus P5QL-E mobo.

Hi I found this on another forum don't know if it will help you or not:

To get this resolved for me, I did the following:
    - exported the complete channel-list into a file
    - opened it with Wordpad and replaced all instances of "DiseqC=3" with "DiseqC=0" (This makes DisecQ set to "none").
    - Imported the channel-list (before I deleted the old channel list within the Channel Editor)
    - Closed DVBViewer, and rebooted the PC
    - And since then, the DVB-S2 reception with my Skystar HD2 is without problems.

My solution may not be of help for those with multiple LNBs to receive multiple satellites, as then a specific DisecQ value is needed. But perhaps it gives you a hint where to find the problem.

DVB-S2 signals are a lot less robust than DVBS, part of the reason for this is to do with controlling the signal outside of the Country it is directed at, If there is a poor signal quality reading to begin with then you will always have a problem. The dish needs to be spot on and also Lnb and cable needs to be the best you can afford, a lot of people struggle to receive DVB-S2 transponders despite their system working perfectly otherwise. You need to think about a bigger dish in my opinion.

Dish and lnb are fine, i tested same equipment with another old PC several times for a very long time and the loss of signal never happens.
I think it is some compatibility problem between motherboard and skystar or insufficient pci voltage. Or some irq problem. I think I eliminated all other possibilities.

        @mahrkpat
Thanks, but I tried that, it doesn't work. I know that thread, I have it in my bookmarks with many similar ones.
        _http://www.dvbviewer.tv/forum/topic/31615-skystar-hd2-problem/

I don't know what to do, I tried so many things. It works with that old PC but I can't use it 'cause it's way to weak for HD channels.

I don't know why, but I can't even disable it in device manager. I think disable/enable would help so I don't have to reboot PC every time.

Maybe an incompability with your motherboard or processor.
Sometimes I get the same issue as you, in the morning I can't watch some HD channels, but at the night no problems at all.
          Regards.

Do you have the same pci card?

I don't have a problem with some HD channels only, but all DVB-S2 frequencies. When signal drops to zero, a can't tune to any S2 channel until I reboot or close DVB player and wait some random time, few minutes or more.

Both pcs has a same OS? XP? If XP, What drivers you use, wdm or bda? Technisat wdm drivers are just bad for latest cards. But their BDA drivers are terrible. I have Skystar USB HD. When i tried to use it with windows I had that issue when you are unable to enable/disable it without rebooting. And because of absolutely unusable BDA drivers there's no way to make these cards work in win7.

I already wrote these technisat cards (I'm sure about USB, never had pci cards) are only suitable to work in Linux with liplianin or CrazyCat drivers.

Re: Big problem, SkyStar HD2 lose DVB-S2 signal

Yes, same OS (XP). I use latest BDA driver (there are no WDM drivers for this card).
Maybe I could try linux (just for testing purpose ) but only when I get some time on my hands to play with that.
I have found temporary workaround, but frequent S2 signal loss is still very annoying. I noticed that if you install full drivers (with HID, for usb remote) then there is no disable option in device manager. So I installed without HID (I use serial port sensor/winlirc anyway). And I use DevManView and this bat script to restart card and any dvb player as fast as possible:
                Code:
                C:\DevManView.exe /disable_enable "TechniSat SkyStar HD2(Without HID)"
                cd C:\Program Files\DVBViewer
                start DVBViewer.exe

I'm not 100 % sure, but I'm sure enough: your card works with 4.6 drivers. Only PCIe technisat card works with newer so called 4.7 drivers which doesn't include WDM for TV watching -only NDIS.

Don't use technisat BDA drivers. To install WDM do as follows.
                  1. Download lite version of drivers
                  Code:
                  _http://skystar-2.com/server.php?filename=Technisat_Drivers_v4.6.0_Lite.rar
                  2. Change your driver to driver from WDM folder. Your card will disappear from multimedia adapters and will appear in network adapters
                  3. To let dvbviewer or some other DVB app to use your skystar to watch tv you need to register directshow filter sky2pcavsrc.ax. To do it place it in system32 dir and run regsvr32 Sky2PCAVSrc.ax
                  4. Place SkyDll.dll in DVBViewer folder (to use Remote Control)
                  5. Maybe you'll need to reboot your PC, then delete card from DVBViewer and run search.
                  6. IMPORTANT. You need to check "has CI module". Instead you won't be able to watch encrypted channels.
You will see lower SAT signal in DVB app - nevermind, it means nothing- signal is OK.

Thanks for your effort. I am familiar with all this, I've used old skystar 2 for years. But, are you talking here about HD2? There's no way I can install 4.6 drivers, it's not for that card. It asks for MtsBda.sys and latest version is 1.1.1.502 from 2009. Old skystar 2 uses SkyNet.sys.

OK sorry I thought you got Skystar S2 HD
                      Code:
                      _https://www.technisat.com/en_XX/SkyStar-S2/352-2675-1676/
Just when I bought my skystar usb hd they announced 3 cards - pci, oci-e and usb. pci and usb version were equipped with 4.6 drivers. pci-e - 4.7

No this is not my card. My card is SkyStar S2 HD and IŽve sent to repair and they have sent to me a new one SkyStar S2 HD card, and I have the same issues. So I think is a compatibility problem or diseq issue. I can`t tune hotbird sat whole channels. And Astra there are some channels I canŽt tune too.
                        My drivers are 4.6.0.
Maybe the DiseQc management of DVBDream, so IŽll try another different one.
                        Best regards.
