Skystar 2 No Signal

Hi I have just dug out my old Skystar 2 PCI card and set it up with the 4.6.0.9999 dated 28.04.2010 and it is showing up in Sound Video and game controllers so seems to be working fine on the drivers and software side prog dvb finds it ok but I am getting no signal at all. I know the satellite cable is fine as it gives me a strong signal on my skybox f3.

My PC is a core 2 duo and I have tried the card in all my pci slots as I read somewhere that can make a difference. I have tried it on Windows XP Windows 7 and Windows 8 and am getting the same result

any other advice or is it a throw it in the bin scenario?

some ideas:

try with another operational rcvr

select correct sat and check :

satellites.xml ( __hxxp://satellites-xml.eu/ )

rescan channels

backup and reset all: reset factory settings, sat setting, channel setting (rescan)

Had a look at the other thread and its not the same problem as mine as he has some sort of signal whereas I am getting none at all in any software including Linux.

Tried my Skybox F3 with the same cable and am getting nearly 800 channels on 28E with a blind scan so its not the cable. Think it might be easier to just buy another F3 or an F5 lol

Perhaps the problem is in the viewer app. ProgDVB is not the best app. for me. I prefer dvbdream or dvbviewer.
Check the diseQc configuration, probably you have not well configurated this item. And so you don't have got any signal, any channel.
Perhaps the SkyStar2 pci card is defective.
Windows XP is the best option for this card, sure. So Win7 is not the best O.S. for Skystar2.

thanks findeciclo will give it a try with dvbdream and Windows XP. At the moment I am using the loopthrough on the F3 as I know there is a good signal on it. If it doesn't work this time its going in the dustbin

EDIT 1 Heres an odd one its working using the loopthrough on the F3 box when the box is switched on but nothing when I put it in standby

EDIT 2 Connected the skystar 2 directly to the lnb again and am getting no signal again but it gets some signal using the loop connector on the back of the F3 really winding me up now the card and cables must be ok as have had them all working Grrrrr

Windows XP is the best option for this card, sure. So Win7 is not the best O.S. for Skystar2.

Yesterday my SkyStar HD2 stopped.
I've reinstalled the drivers, I've tested signal reception with an old DVB Sat receiver and signal is OK, I've opened the pc cover and I've cleaned all motherboard pci slots, I've check hardware at windows control panel and it says the device works ok, I can't watch anything.
I have also another old SkyStar2 SD pci sat receiver, I've installed and it works fine, but only SD because is not designed for HD broadcastings.
So I think my SkyStar HD2 has crashed.
Someone can tell me something I've forgot test?

You could try putting the card into a different PCI slot in case there is a hardware fault with the slot you are using.

An other idea is to try a different power cable from a different power line on your PSU in case that you have a faulty cable or or a faulty PSU.

The PCI slot works fine, because I have plugin an old SkyStar 2 SD card and works ok.
I have ordered a new PCI SkyStar S2 HD card.

I have received my new SkyStar S2 HD card, and works fine, except I can't scan channels from frec. 11720 to 12728 on Astra 19,2º.
I can scan these frecs. on another sats.
So tuner is fine, and before my other SkyStar was crashed I could tune all whole 19,2º Astra sat.
Why?
Frecs. from 10729 to 11686 are tuned ok, but the rest no.
Why?

I think that it's better to send it back
The problem you said is a tuner problem.

I would say you to check the lnb , but as you said the old card didn't has any problem on these frecs, so, it's a clear tuner problem of the card.

I agree with kalpikos - have seen a similar problem before (high frequencies not found, was only H or V when I remember well): was indeed a tuner problem then.

But this was very strange.
You will see.
I received the new SkyStar S2, then I installed the drivers and codecs, ok.
I reboot the PC, and then I begun to scan channels, first nilesat 7º west. Ok, all frecuencies scanned. Low and High frecuencies, HD and SD channels.
Then I tried to scan 19,2º Astra, and it was scanning ok till the frec. I've told you before.
Then I asked to me.... ¿How is it possible?
I have scanned nilesat and all is ok, all channels available.
Then Astra.......NO.
I revised my DISEqC configuration and it was OK.
Then I turn off my PC.
Later I turn on my PC and then I could scan all 19,2º Astra without any bug.
Strange, but my SkyStar S2 works fine.
I don't know what's the matter, but this is my yesterday experience.
Ok, anyway thanks about your help, and I will go on trying the card in order to decide if I return the device or not.
