Yes you can look through HDTV by means of a card skystar 2, but can look through only those HD channels which broadcast to modulations DVB-S, but majority HD of channels is broadcast now in DVB-S2 there by more capacity, in the near future all channels will be translated on the given standard

yes you can.like me with skystar 2.8a PCI. but only DVB-S FRQs.and i recommend you use cyberlink codec for x264....

Unfortunate as most friends said above, dvbs-2 standard is dominent for mpeg4(HD) broadcasts nowadays.If you really want to watch HD channels in the future, you had better buy a dvbs-2 compatible card.

if you recieve eurobird 9 you can see hd tv like luxe tv hd and more.

As another member said, it's possible to watch hd tv sat channels with SkyStar 2, but only HD MPEG2 based channels and it needs so much pc resources, the most probably situation is your image freezes.
HD MPEG4 channels based are not available for SkyStar 2. It's impossible. Because it is a DVB-S card and is not compliant with DVB-S2 protocol.
So it's true, some of the HD Channels are available for SkyStar 2, but the most important channels are not available.

The difference is not in mpeg4 or mpeg2 , the difference is about dvb-s or dvb-s2.

altdvb, dvbdream , mytheathre, dvb viewer pro, all work fine in latest versions by skystar usb2 hd ci in winxp sp3.

There is an example like Einsfestival HD Astra 19º E, frec.12422 H 27500 3/4 Mpeg4 but broadcast in DVB-S and not DVB-S2 so it can be played by a SkyStar 2 SD, you are right, I was wrong.

But as it not a HD card, freezes a lot, and you need a high power PC to play these HD DVB-S channels.

If you have a nvidia geforce 9500GT graphic card and at least dual core cpu with 1 gb of ram there is no problem to view channels and no freezes.

Make sure you get a DVB-S2 card that has an hardware decoding to take the weight off your normal processor. That way you dont need to fork out a fortune on expensive pc components just to display a picture without it stuttering all over the places.
An example of hardware decoding DVB-S2 card is (not limited to);

Video- and Audio decoding via hardware decoder (MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264)
