MOUNT A NETWORK HARD DISK WITH SAMBA
MOUNT A NETWORK HARD DISK WITH SAMBA
This guide is applyable to all dreambox models except the DM5600.
In
this guide is shown how to use a network hard disk and connect it to a
dreambox as if it will be an internal hard disk, used to record and to
play all the video/audio format supported by the dreambox. This
procedure is very usefull on the DM500 or on other model which do not
have an internal hard disk.
Network hard disk
To
mount it on a dreambox the network hard disk must have a Samba Server.
Almost all the hard disk have this function. The model i used in this
guide is an Argosy HD363N but any other could be used if it has a Samba server inside. You can find a lot on Ebay.
Network hard disk configuration
We
don't care about how to install the network hard disk because every
model have a different procedure, so let's read your model instructions.
We assume that your network hard disk is now perfectly working and so we can go on...
* Enter your network hard disk settings and you should see something similar to this:
* Go
to "Folder share" and create the folder that you will use from
dreambox. In this guide i've used the name "dreambox"; do not forget to
set a password on the folder, i use again "dreambox":
* Now
we have to create the folder "movie" inside the folder "dreambox" you
have just created. To do so go to "Start" and after go to "Run", type
in the box two backslash (\\) followed by the IP address of your
network hard disk and click "ok":
* A
window will open with the folders you have on the hard disk root. Enter
the "dreambox" folder (you have to enter the password, if you have
correctly executed the previous instructions the password should be
"dreambox") and create there a folder called exactly "movie"
(lowercase):
Dreambox configuration
Do not follow this part if the dreambox have an internal Hard Drive. Remember to connect and switch on the network hard disk before to execute this procedure.
* Go to menu "Settings".
* Then go to "Advanced Settings".
* Then go to "Communcation Settings".
* Then
go to "mounts", set the protocol as SMBFS, set the hard disk IP and
complete the other settings exactly like the following image:
* Pay attention to the fact that
the IP you see in the image (192.168.0.34) in the field IP and in the
DIR field must be substituted with your network hard disk IP.
* When
you have written the settings go down and confirm with "OK", when
you'll be prompted if you want to edit another card select "NO".
* Select "mount and click "OK", if all is right after few seconds you'll see the following message:
* If something went wrong a
message sholud say that it was not possible to mount the "/hdd" folder.
This means that you did an error writing the settings, or that the hard
disk could not be switched on or not properly set. I remind to you to
pay attention to folder names, passwords, they are case sensitive.
* Go to "File menu" and go up until you arrive at this screenshot:
* If
you choose "Hard disk" you'll see all the hard disk content. If you
choose "recorded films" you'll see only the movies recorded by this
decoder.
Remote video function buttons
Before execute any operation you have to push the "video" key and make appear the following video keys on the OSD:
This is a map of the remote keys function:
Rewind Key RED
Play Key GREEN
Pause Key YELLOW
Forward Key BLUE
Stop Key TV
Records Key RADIO
Video keys on the remote control of new DM500
I do not understand the Dream Multimedia engineers; on the new DM500 they forget the VIDEO key! To solve this problem there's a solution, if you tolerate to loose another key. This is the procedure:
* Open the file "/share/tuxbox/enigma/resources/rcdm5***.xml" with a UNIX text editor, choose the key you wanna loose and set the VIDEO key code (27). I.E. if you have choosen the help key:
Original file:
<<a id="edCreatedkey_13" target="_blank" href="http://adv08.edintorni.net/affiliati/click/?q=key&a=3007&e=4&y=3&j=ea4337c75097bdc848529a118c b7931ahttp%3A%2F%2Fadvertiser%2Eedintorni%2Enet%2F redirect%2Easp%3FidA%3D638%26query%3Dkey%26cpk%3Dk %26idU%3D179&r=&x=1200242767015&z=tt.lh.d9433e0606 6238995372cc2b1af3ba30&i=336" edcreated="1" style="border-bottom: medium none; text-decoration: underline; color: rgb(0, 0, 255);">key</a> name="video" code="27" picture="key.11" />
<key name="help" code="52" picture="key.23" />
After the modify:
<key name="video" code="52" picture="key.11" />
<key name="help" code="27" picture="key.23" />
* Let the original file in the original position and save the edited one in "/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/resources/rcdm5***.xml".
* Reboot completely the dreambox and this will be the video key.
The
only thing you have to pay attention to is to not set repeated key code
because if the system find a repeated code it will not function
correctly. If you want to rool back to the original settings, simply
delete the "/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/resources/rcdm5***.xml" and reboot the dreambox.
