VLC for Linux (ubuntu):
First, install vlc by running this command:

apt-get install vlc

This will in general install a ****load of stuff, codecs and other things needed. As I learnt, it is also required to install something called the avahi-daemon. This is done by running this command:

apt-get install avahi-daemon

If you are having trouble finding these packages, you might want to run:

apt-get update

Now that all this has been installed, you need to launch VLC using the following command-line:

vlc -d -I http --sout="#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=1024,scale=1,acode c=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access =http,mux=ts,dst=/}}" --http-port=9090

This specifies that the web interface is to be used, together with some transcoding stuff ;-)

At the time of writing this, I am still trying to tune the vlc backend a bit. It is currently using 50%+ cpu when streaming...

Now it is time to start the VLC frontend on the dreambox and set it up to use the correct xml file. Start VLC frontend plugin by starting blue panel (blue button on the remote) and selecting Plugins. VLC Frontend will show up as a plugin, select it and press Ok.

VLC frontend is now started, select settings (blue button).
In the dropdown list, select the xml file you created earlier, movieplayer_My_Server.xml.
Then select Switch.
You will now be told to restart VLC Frontend; do this by using the exit button until you are back at the plugins page.
Now start VLC Frontend again.
Use the red button (File).
You will now be able to see the movie files that is in the folder specified as startdir in the xml file.
Select the file you'd like to watch and press Ok.
Then wait for the buffering to complete, sit back and enjoy the movie...

The subtitles are in the same DIR, have exact the same name with the movie, but are not played.
Is a way to be enabled manualy editing one of the vlc files from DM800?

I've tried also from 2xyellow button but the green screen appear.
I'm more than sure that must be a way to enable subtitles by directly editing of one vlc plugin installed on DM, but until now I didnt find which one.
Untill someone will give us a hint I found a nice alternative, a little but fast soft called "AVIAddXSubs" which who the subtitles cand be inserted on avi, but its alter a little bit from the movie quality and change the sound to mpga, but the movies can be wached in a decent way with subtitles.
I still wait for a solution with vlc plugin.
Can someone help?

My friend, doesn't work for me i doo all the steps but when i put the yellow buton and VideoLanClient in my dreambox there i see that

and I don't know what is meter

Hi, I'm on Windows 64bit. I do everything the guide says, by the book. All seems to go just fine. But when I press to select the VideoLanClient plugin I get no files or subdirectories at all at c:/movies which is the folder I set. Empty, black

Any ideas? I already tried running as administrator, no use.

Is there something newer working?

I have the Dreambox 7020 S.

Finally i do ,after 4 months i managed to do , after 4 months trying , i can see my movies from my PC to my TV , with VLC and Dreambox 500s clone, and was soo simply,but i can't see that way

Whilst this is not a tutorial however to stream to your pc, install VLC on your pc. In your browser enter the ip of your receiver this will load Web-X-TV. You then can either click onto Web-X-TV to view or click vpid to stream.

can i stream a video from pc-internet on my dreambox? lets say a ******* video or a streaming movie from internet? if not then this is not worth the trouble.

hi,
streaming # Internet < -> PC < -> DB # is possible.

-on your pc, you need to change the vlc port for input / codes to 8080 and set a hook at Http remote control interface
-on your DB, you just need to enter the IP on vlc
