If you do a search on ebay for USB tuner, it comes up with quite a few.

It's just a TV tuner that will work on a PC, that's what I understand them to be.

There was a post on here recently on how to set up a Dreambox with a USB tuner.

But the DM500 is pretty cheap if you need two, it might be better to just get one of those.

I purchased a winTv Nova T stick on ebay (not the HD model) and it is working fine. The HD channels are working as well !!! It is just a limitation with the Haupauge software, not the hardware (and if you use a free tnt player on the pc, HD are working as well).
This dual tuner feature is working very well, and it is directly implemented in the DreamElite image (use the Phenix edition, because other version are not supported and they don't have the tnt drivers download feature).

The main issue I have concern the fact that the dreamboxes are not able to manage the dolbyDigital+ audio norm (AC3+) and all french HD channels are using it now ! So, my second tuner is only used for some SD channels.

I don't think this could be possible for dm500, it has been developped for dm800 and dm500HD (if you have modified it to enable the USB of course).

But on the 800 can you record on one tuner and watch the other at the same time?

yes, if you have a tnt tuner of course
With the dreameilte image the behaviour is the same than the 8000 (same functionnalities in both dreambox Images)
