Dreambox 500c

I know this will be hard to come by but here goes...I was trying to set up a DM500c for someone and got the box flashed but however when i go to search it shows now channelsor providers....there is a upc cable line coming into the house but as we dont have upc cable its inactive...do i need a program added onto the box to search or should it do it automatically? I have heard of bruteforce but cannot find it..
As I have only previously worked with satellite before I have no idea of cable...therefore all help appreciated!
