I have a dreambox 500s in the sitting room and have two c lines in the box courtesy of premium membership.
I recently purchased a DM 800HD PVR for upstairs ...I didnt think you could run two dreamboxes off the one network so i have two ....the bueaty of bundle packages in Ireland menat it didnt cost me any more than I was paying already!
now my questions are as follows
Can i use one c line for one box and one for another or will that cause freezing?
The DM500s has a boquet system that i like with everything grouped into Sports , Movies ,etc How do i get the same setup on the DM800HD?
Can you get away with one network for two Dreamboxes if your broadband is strong enough? (I know theres a way of sharing with one box becoming the server and the other the client but I dont think my broadband is good enough)

Yes, you can run 2 dreamboxes (even more) in one network.
Everything is depend on the ping time of your network.
If you have small ping time, then you will not have any problem.

I think that the problem will be with your lines.

As you said, you have 2 c-lines and I assume that they are from one server.
Then, if you separate them, you will have problem because some packages will not work.

Probably, the server gave to 2 c-lines in order to watch more packages.
If you remove one of them you will lost some channels.

Of course you can make some tests in order to find if lines work correctly or not.

As about the bouquets system, you can use Dreamboxedit and make all the bouquets you want.
I suggest you to download a ready made channel list as Vhannibal settings and to make any necessary changes with Dreamboxedit.
After that, you can load it to your box.

How do i find out the ping time? So you suggest get another set of c lines so that i dont have any problems....

Just be careful if you use 1 or 2 clines on more than one receiver at the same time: most servers will ban you - to be sure: ask where you got the clines from!

I got them from here when i became a premium member a long time ago...I plugged both of them in when i hadnt really got a clue...have more of an idea now...They seem to work best as a pair...picture starts to freeze when i split them up...

From checking both my broadband providers seem to be giving 40 mg broadband....dont know if thats strong enough to run two?

confirmation of my earlier post #4: satlover clines may not be reshared: only 1 box of the same server at the same time.
I suppose you mean 50 Mb broadband: really should be enough to run two (really not much needed).

They are telling me the max i will get is 40 Mb ...so im doing the correct thing by having both c lines in the one box ..

1- network time response

2- cam server time response


you can have a fast network and a fast cam server (perfect)
or
you can have a fast network and a slow cam server (freeze)

how to guess it ?

1- network time response
this can be measured with ping , just as you've suggested

2- cam server time response
with cccam, this is given by

/var/tmp/ecm.info

at the line ecm time

if ecm time is too high, you've got freeze

If the c-lines are from here, satlover forum, I think that you can't separate them.
You are allowed to use them only in one receiver.

The IP address will be the same because you are using the same network, but the mac address will be different for each box.

Maybe you should contact with an admin of the forum and ask him what you want to do.

I sent off an email..the two c lines work best together so im not going to split them..then i have two boxes that dont work properly!! I will het another c line and use that with the other box...
