    Clone or not Clone

Is there any way to find out if a unit is a clone or not?
I have searched net and found these site that you are supposed to put a number generated by the unit in it to verify if its a original or clone?
But can't find anywhere on menus to get that?

Thanks for your help in advance

The easiest way is to see what Boot Logo pops up on the display screen when it boots could be Sim2,Ferrari or the latest A8P which are all clones

        Hi mate

What box do you want to check?
In most cases a clone can be recognized by the bad quality of manufacture.
Moreover if you see something about card sim 2.1 or ferrari etc then it's more than sure that you have a clone.
Finally the price is factor that can reveals the true.

Thanks guys, I am not sure if I can understand what you are trying to say.

            In terms of price and model;
it is a Dm800HD, and was left behind by a group of eastern European guys who were renting my friends flat. The box look shocking cosmetically and non of the screws looks like anything like the one in pictures (in the other thread).

when connected to the TV, noticed it won't boot/ temperamental (boots sometimes) . So going to spend a bit of time this weekend to see if I can get it up and running.
            I will keep you informed

            Thanks

Power box on holding the power button.
On lcd screen you will see the ip and then press again the power button.
              You will see the bootloader.
If you know the bootloader you can find the sim.

Also, you can open up the box and remove it and find out what is written on the sim .

                Clone or not Clone (?)

For me very simple: Normaly (as far as I know) original has (better hardware and) a seal at the backside.

OK, perhaps a clone can copy even this.

but the sim is covered with black glue, can't remove or see underneath
I tried to load latest openpli, but didn't work. it won't boot, all three leds are solid on.

If you see black glue over the sim, probably you have an genuine dreambox.

Try this page to check it:

If your dreambox is genuine, then flash the bootloader with dream up using serial.
Reboot your receiver and then use web browser to flash image with a new openpli image from the official page.

The requested code by the page can be found only by a plugin which generate a verification code.
Of course, this plugin is available when you are running the original image from DMM.

I think is better to flash an engima2 original image from DMM and then run the authenticity test.

If you flash an engima2 original image from DMM and then you can successfully boot the receiver (I mean, no "ca error" appears) there are only two options:
                          - you receiver is DMM genuine
                          - you have an A8P sim on board

But it looks like you have already excluded the second option, so ...

You can flash an .nfi image only with browser.

                              Just follow the tutorial here:
