DM500 briked?

hi to all, i try a few months ago to put a new image via wireless internet on my dm500 but after the restart it never came back. now i just have a black screen. so is this normal error and i get save it with a wire or i just loose my time?

Did you try to reflash it with null modem cable?
Also, you must be sure that the power adapter is ok.
If you can find an other power adapter , test it and reflash with null modem cable.

DreamUp and serial cable (null modem) should do the job ... best if you have an old pc with serial port.
If it doesn't work you can always jtag, it's not that hard.

A few months ago i had a similar problem (box stuck on boot) and solved it with DreamUp and null modem cable. If you don't have a old PC you can buy a USB to serial converter and do the job.

This is no power adapter problem for sure i see the lets working out and inside the box. i must did something wrong during flashing. so if its a common problem i will try to find the null modem if i didnt trow it away and get out the dust from my old pc. any post showing the steps?

A power adapter problem can be found only with a multimeter or by changing with a new power adapter.
If your power adapter is faulty the leds will still working and you think that all is ok , but ... no.

Anyway, try the null modem cable and dreamup.
The procedure is the following:

First disconnect the box from main power
start the program "DreamUp
press the "Connect" - button
select your comport and then connect the box to main power
please wait now
after the flash loader is transfered into the Box select the firmware by pressing the "Flash" - button
select the firmware and click "open"
upload starts now, please wait
Box is flashing the new firmware into the flash memory, please wait
flashing done, press "OK"
press "disconnect then exit"
restart the box

i only got one port (com1) and after i connect the box to main power i wait for a few minutes but nothing happen.

The most important steps in procedure well described by kalpikos are:
1 - dm500 must be off
2 - cable must be connected
3 - DreamUp is fired and Connect button has been pushed (now DreamUp is waiting for dm550)
4 - only now power up dm500

DreamUp should detect the receiver

If you have the possibility to repeat the steps (without flashing) with a working dm500 you can be sure that your actions and your equipment is ok.
When tried successfully with a working dm500 but can't succeed with your dead dm500 ... it means that bootloader is corrupted and the only way is jtagging

are you sure you have the correct cable? normally should be a serial RS232 nullmodemcable (crossed). Do you mean the com1 port on your computer/laptop? If not, try to avoid serial to usb adapters (some work, some don't). I've had similar problems before (no DB), had to change the speed of the com port to the speed of the comport of the box itself.

I agree with you @pan1100.

The cable is a major factor for the process.
You must have a null modem cable and not a serial RS232 cable.
Also, you have to avoid using adaptor for usb.

Here is the simplest null modem cable that you can make it by your self:



The above cable works very well with dm500s.

If you can't make it work, that's mean that you need jtag procedure.

I have a mac with windows 7 installed via virtual machine and i use an adaptor for usb port because the mac does not have serial port and everything works fine.

nice info from all of you, i never done this before and i will give it a try again, it sound too much trouble for a dieing box worth $50 but it all about learning isnt it?

Don't worry about the price and if it's worth or not
All of us we have a hobby.... the sat maniac hobby
We don't look at the price, we do all these because we love everything about satelliteTv and cs.

Try diferent versions of dreamup and try to anoter pc.100% work
