Hardware Update for Dreamboxes - New DM500HD-DM800SE-DM7020HD

There will be "new models" of DM500HD, DM800SE, DM7020HD with improved memory.

    Hardware-Update for Dreamboxes

    Release-Image planned for OE2.0

Hong Kong, 18. July 2013. Leontech, responsible for the distribution of the Dreambox brand of Linux-based set-top boxes, is launching three existing models of Dreamboxes into the trade with improved hardware. The DM500 HD as well as the DM800 HD se and the DM7020 HD will be equipped with new memory modules, increasing the performance of these boxes, which have won many awards. In addition a release image will be published for the OE2.0 software for this second generation of Dreamboxes. To date, the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se have come equipped with a 64 MB flash memory. The random access memory used to be 256 MB. The new hardware components mean that the flash memory in both Dreamboxes is increased to 1 GB. The random access memory capacity is doubled to 512 MB. The increased memory capacity will allow users to install significantly more plug-ins and other extensions, thus increasing the range of functions of their Dreambox. This means that both the compact DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se now feature the same memory capacity as the DM7020 HD. This Dreambox, too, is being equipped with new memory modules, as the modules used previously are no longer available from the suppliers. To coincide with the new hardware in the second generation Dreamboxes, Leontech will make available a release image for the OE2.0 software. To date, only a beta version of the software has been available, which, among other features, supports the HbbTV standard. Leontech spokesperson Louis Lee: „This hardware update ensures the DM500 HD and the DM800 HD se remain at the cutting edge of technology. The expansion of memory capacity allows users to adapt their Dreamboxes even better to their individual preferences.

Strange! The same processors with more memory?! Hong Kong?! Bankruptcy?!

    ok,

they have the technology, the reputation, the awards,
they have the distribution channels, forum support,

but a bad business model to justify higher price without significant image addon

if they cut some bad fat,
to make confident the bankers, i should think
the basement of the company should be able to come back

    let's wait and see ...

Maybe they want to sell out everything they have supplied
It's very easy to sell new hardware on those boxes,it's fully modulable (as a linux box)
The only thing which will interest me is the price of those new boxes.
Again, let see what competitors will do

I read few month ago that a company wanted to buy them.
If they have some financial problem ,they could be thinking of changing the board and the strategy like they have announced today

I have read that the price remains the same. Maybe it's not a good politics. Do they want to squeeze the orange to the last drop: fame?

I really can't imagine a bright future for these new models ... competitors are far ahead nowdays and their support is very good too.

If the price remains the same then the future of these models will be bad.
Nowdays, people buy dreambox clones only, and I believe that none of them will give their money to buy an original dreambox with these features including these minor changes.
When these changes are done by the Chinese manufactures then people will start buying this new teclocnogy and the boxes will be popular again.

What do you think about the OE2.0 implementation with this new upgrades? Can it be a breath of fresh air in the enigma2?

              regards

Improvements of OE2.0 are surely important and worth:
                - new kernel
                - webbrowser
                - Hbbtv (Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV)
                - HDMI CEC
                - bluray support

I can remember these but there are others too ...

Problem is that vu+, gigablue, etc all have OE 2.0 as well.
So if the choice was a vu+ duo2 or a dm800 se for the same price, I know where my money would go.
Outdated and overpriced, they should focus their efforts on a new line that can compete with the likes of vu+, Gigablue, etc.

                    The vu+ duo2 or a vu+ solo2 or a Gigablue quad is more powerfull than a dm800se.
In DDM, they plan to change the memory of the boxes, but the CPU will remain the same. Because DDM has an overpricing policy, they will soon burn out.

the high price of receivers dreambox probably determined by the marketing policy of the manufacturer, that determines the high quality of the dreambox is as the sale of expensive cars that use high quality components to maintain the reputation of the company.

But dmm have been surpassed by vu+ and other companies that offer the same quality for a better price.
If dmm don't adapt and move with the times, the only dreambox you'll be able to purchase is a clone.
£400 -£450 for a single tuner, outdated receiver. No thanks.

Maybe the first reason (market policy) has a bigger role of the second (components quality) because we all know that with solid state technology a valuable difference can be given only by electrolitic capacitors ... in other words, a few cents (for better quality capacitors) are enough to transform the worst clone in a good quality clone.

Question for you guys, would you buy the new dm models, or wait a million years for goliath?

                            Im getting pretty impatient!

Neither one thing nor the other! You have too many options: Vu+, Gigablue, Xtrend, Venton... and so on! And much cheaper!
