Not only clones, also good alternatives with a better (lower) price and equal (or even better) software support.
And the "insolvenz" of Dream-multimedia is not official confirmed untill now!

Re: Dream Multimedia has declared Bankruptcy

well, the fact is how to make up my mind when purchasing a long time device, for daily use, such as a sat rcvr !

the market proposes on one hand the white market:

      - pioneer player: dreambox, from 400 ... 1000 E
      - outsiders: vu+, from 200 .. 400 E
      - challengers: gigavblue quad, but not yet ready with genuine image
      - gray brands: all theses real label, but who knows

      and

      the clone industry devices, from 75 .. 250 E

the rich byers are definitively happy with high priced rcvr,
and the other people are equally happy with gray brands, and clones, just because they can affort it

all this remind me the laptop story with
      - pionner players: ibm thinkpad, compaq, digital, siemens, toshiba
      - outsiders: hp, samsung
      - challengers: dell, acer
      - gray players: ...

and some people bought their white product at the corner of the street,
with in and out fully compatible components chosen by the local expert
and they were all equally happy, but for half, or even a third of the top gun prices

is it realy worth to trust a sales man when proposing a 150 - 200 % overpriced item ?

so, it's very normal that nobody suggested that you buy an original dreambox.
A clone costs half price than an original but also has many quallity problems.
        ....
Depends what is the clone, I've two Sunray 800se and those are working perfect from more then 1 year. In one of those I've installed A8P sim and now it is totally perfect like original Dmm 800se or better because has an additional USB port on front that don't exists on original box.

Re: Dream Multimedia has declared Bankruptcy

I have not read something like that. What i have seen is that DM has made internal restructuring:

          Dream reorganizes its distribution

          16.05.2013
Expansion of service and support facilities

Dream Multimedia, the leading provider of Linux-based set-top boxes, has reorganized its distribution within the framework of a general restructuring programme. Part of the restructuring involves expanding the service and support facilities for customers.

Dream has specifically decided to expand its international distribution, and to this end has found a partner who will in future be responsible for the worldwide network of distributors as well as for the sell-through of Dream products. This will allow the producer of Dreamboxes to react more flexibly to the demands of an increasingly dynamic market environment, and so to ensure the continued success of the Dream brand.

The restructuring programme involves expanding the service and support facilities at the headquarters in Lünen, close to Dortmund in Germany, in order to provide the company’s own customers with optimum support in case of any questions concerning the Dream products.

The restructuring as well as the expansion of the service and support facilities ensure that Dream can enhance its profile in comparison with its competitors. In future, too, Dream Multimedia will continue to cement its leading position as an innovative company in the field of consumer electronics, with specifically developed software solutions and new products, such as the Goliath project, which is currently in development.

Dream spokesperson Alpaslan Karasu: „Our new distribution structure provides the foundation for the continued success of the Dream brand. We want to provide a level of quick, expert support as well as extensive services for our customers in order to further distinguish ourselves from the competition.“
I have read a rumour that Dream Multimedia have been bought by another enterprise.

One thing is real: the Goliath project have never been shown.

          Regards

If it's true it is indeed sad days, as DM were driving the competition and giving competitors a vision where sat receivers should go. One visionary less on the market is bad as healthy competition is always works best for consumers

Re: Dream Multimedia has declared Bankruptcy

As far as I am concerned, by my humble opinion, Dream Multimedia can cease to exist!
Have been using Dreambox 800 HD since it's beginnings, also been using Nabilo v12 BH image for some 3 years and nothing ever went wrong...
So I'm quite sure that underground Dream Sat CS scene WILL continue to live, looong after Dream is gone.
Only downsize is that receivers would become hard to find and it's price will be oversized. VU+ and alike will take it's place.

The reason DM failed, if it has failed, is that it was getting left behind and it's
pricing was too high, the Goliath should have been ready as soon as they said
the production of DM800 was stopped a year ago.

Like a member said in another thread why buy a original when for the same
price you can buy 3/4 clones. The future seems to be integration of satellite t.v
with i.p t.v and the front end being XBMC or similar therefore combining the
best of both worlds. eg like if it ever comes into being:

is it true or more of rumors?

anyway dream boxes are expensive i think and there are good alternatives with affordable prices

Re: Dream Multimedia has declared Bankruptcy

I think the fault lies with the crisis. Probably it is also possible that the Linux market for satellite set top boxes is saturated. People using the DM does already for several years and obviously this, coupled with clones price, is the reason of bankruptcy or closure of the company.

                      Best regards.

                        hi,

geeks loves dm, because you can rely on it !
but they can do the job on lower price boxes !

on the other hand, rich non-geeks should have felt a strong self ego inflatation when buying and showing out a dream box to justify the price

marketing: the science of selling an image,

like porsche, lacoste, omega, mercedes, apple, ...
all these brand cost much more than just duble price the ordinary competitor (like dreambox did),
but they inflate them-self from a fantastic image power to justify their price !

in fact, the dreambox bankruptcy, may be the consequence of a lack of selfish feeling from rich (non-geek) guys

                            Have to wait and see.
