Can I use camd server on dm500s with newcamd 1.38 and if I can where do I put host, deskey, server etc. I am quite familiar with cccam but wanted to try camd server.

first, you need to install the emulator Mgcamd 1.38 and after this you can use the NewCamd

After you finished installation of mgcamd
go in var/keys
There must be 2 files:

newcamd.list and cccamd.list

in newcamd.list you can put a Nline
e.g.

CWS_KEEPALIVE = 300
CWS_INCOMING_PORT = 21000
CWS = <server> <port> <username> <password> 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14

and in cccamd.list you can put a Cline as you did until now with cccam.cfg

Yes I have installed mgcamd 1.38 but there is no newcamd.lst or cccamd.lst. Do I have to put them in myself.

You can put your server info in "newcamd.list " file as-

CWS = <server> <port> <username> <password> 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14

Yes you can my friend

If you don't have these files you can create them.
Create 2 blank files (newcamd.list and cccamd.list) somewhere to your pc
with notepad and then use DCC and transfer them to var/keys.
After this, use DCC again to put your line.
Remember that mgcamd needs restart after any change.

Mate, let's make some clarification if you are more interested to try the emu mgcamd or you simply need to connect to a server with camd protocol.

If you are in the first case, all the advices of the friends who wrote above apply very well.
If you are in the second case, keep in mind that camd is a different protocol from newcamd but you can use cccam for both protocols.

Example in cccam.cfg for camd protocol

L: camd_server port user password

Example in cccam.cfg for newcamd protocol

N: newcamd_server port user password xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx xx

Just to complete the info ...
camd is an unencrypted protocol and can be based on tcp or udp, but mostly is based on udp. It means that it is a little bit faster (you will have shorter ecm times) but if a packet is lost the server will never retransmit it and you will have blank screen for many seconds (until the next ecm asks for a new control word).
newcamd is encrypted and always based on tcp: it means that it is little bit slower but more reliable because if a packet is lost it will be immediately retransmitted with the result of a smooth and uninterrupted vision.
