    Dm800se BCM 4505 or ALPS 801A M tuner?

    I'm Thinking of buying a dm800se clone,
but I see that there are 2 different types of tuners.

    -BCM4505
    -ALPS 801A M

The shop states that the Bcm4505 tuner is an original tuner and the Alps is the newer.
    Is that true?

The only difference I can see is that the Alps tuner has the loop through F connector.
    I'm a little confused

Is there any difference between them in signal strength?

    Which tuner is the best?

In my experience ALPS 801A M shows better result on weaker signals

      I agree with rizwan.
I can't confirm myself, but I have read in many places that Alps shows a better sensitivity, though it is older than Broadcom and produces more heat.

ok , Thanks for your answers

        but I can't understand...
If Alps tuner is better, why Dmm don't use them in the original receivers ?
I have only seen Alps tuners in clones, not in original boxes, why?

Alps tuner sounds like "dated" and it's more expensive at the same time.
But who said that newer is always better ?

What about sunray4 800se with triple tuner?
What tuner it has? bcm or alps ?
            (I mean DVB-S tuner)

Triple tuner should have a Broadcom chipset, not Alps for sure and is the less sensitive of the three.
Just to have an idea of differences, here is the report of a test from a friend in another forum:

My setup is a single motorised centre focus dish with twin output invacom 0.3 db lnb. Took 1 feed to the rev M DB (sim 201) and 1 feed to the BCM db (sim 210). On both boxes I had the same image (blackhole 170 by rami) and the same skin (glamour infinity by rami). The weather here in Scotland was heavy cloud and a little rain. Used Sky Italia cinema HD channels on Hotbird to compare each box. The results were as follows.

              Cinema1 RevM tuner 14.0db snr 87 AGC 99 BER 0 BCM tuner 11.9db snr 74 AGC 21 BER 0
              Cinema +1 RevM tuner 14.5db snr 90 AGC 99 BER 0 BCM tuner 12.6db snr 79 AGC 21 BER 0
              Cinema+24 Rev M TUNER 17.5DB SNR 100 AGC 96 BER 0 BCM tuner 15.4db snr 95 AGC 21 BER 0

I monitored all 10 cinema channels and the results were about the same. ie BCM tuner was about 2db lower, about 10-15 lower snr, significantly less AGC and a BER of the same.
Swapped the feeds over and got the same results on each box so the difference was not down to the lnb output.

The persons with Only low or weak signals think about Sensitivity of Tuners, others are satisfied

from what i have read the ALPS 801A M tuner is the better and more sensitive and also M tuner does not support blind scan correct me if i am wrong.

yes Johnny, you are right ... no blind scan for Alps (and no loop through, as said before).
Not good if you are a feed hunter.

                      Ok,
you convinced me that Alps 801 M tuner is more sensitive than the BCM4505
                      but what about the stability?

Can someone confirm if there are problems in some frequencies getting the famous "service not found" with one or the other tuner?

I have M tuner and it almost lock on every frequency of Hotbird, which is available for me, Scan whole 9 E, 100 % ok with 7 E etc, woks nice on high symbol rates, mostly on Asian DTH , but have no idea about BCM4505

"service not found" is the typical error that shows up when you have wrong drivers, so it can occur with both tuners.

I have tried 2 versions of BCM 4505 on the DM800se.
They are more sensetive than the Alps tuner.
But be careful, all BCM 4505 are not equal.
Some are less sensetive than others.
It seems that they are not all made by the same manufacturer.

I have heard for that, mate
Many people are very satisfied from their bcm tuner, but other have problems.
Is there something to understand which is more sensitive?
maybe a number, a sign or the shop?
