You would have to create a wireless bridge connection from the laptop to the DM500s using the crossover cableComment

Re: Connecting Dreambox to free public wifi
Can't use vonets as DM500s does not have a usb port.Comment

Re: Connecting Dreambox to free public wifi
search please,go to ******* and see yourself, search wifi bridge (vonets) setting for dreambox 500,you dont need usb port.1 cable from vonets goes to lan and second cable goes to power.in vonets you put the cable that comes from the power outlet.is very simple
p.s you will see that you can remove usb cable and will remain a power jack.good luckComment

Re: Connecting Dreambox to free public wifi
This is taken from another forum no need to spend money and get a Vonets like i said make a wireless bridge between the laptop and 500s with the equipment you have.
Hi everyone
Ive been asked a by a few people how i use my laptop as a wireless bridge for my Dm500's .After an age trying to write a guide.(I'm crap with a pen but in my head it all makes sense).I found this on ****** i hope it helps a few people.
follow the guide then just plug ya network cable from dreambox to the laptop's network port and if its ok ya should be able to access the network through your laptops wireless network connection.Again this is not my guide just one i found on ******.I wish i got the guy's name who posted it as he deserves the credit.Anyway hope it helps

1. Plug in your console (WII, Xbox 360, PS3 Dreambox) and allow it to acquiring ip address.
2. click on the Windows button and type "network and sharing center" and enter
3. on the left right under manage wireless networks, should say change adapter settings click that
4. right click local area connection and disable it.
5. right click local area connection and click properties.
6. there should be a tab that says sharing go to that tab.
7. there is a box that says allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection. uncheck it if it is checked.
8.hit ok then right click local area connection and enable it.
9 now select both your wireless network connection and the local area connection and right click and it should have the option to bridge connections. when you click bridge it will do its thing and should work when its done.
A network bridge is just letting one device pass through another's network connection. No routing or NAT is neededComment

Re: Connecting Dreambox to free public wifi
first you install software from cd
second plug vonets with usb and lan to pc
third start software
fourth select from software desired wifi and put all is required.with software in pc you search all wifi in range, select desired wifi, input passwd(if required) and then, when is finished put it in dm(power to power and lan to lan)Comment

Re: Connecting Dreambox to free public wifi
Worked like a dream. it was so easy to do as well. For my next project i am going to use an old router and try and make it into a wireless repeater from this network. Does anyone have any working knowledge of DD-WRTComment
