Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
Are you sure that the "sender" use your box only for upload channel list
or just to take a look if everithing is working ok?
I would like to remind you that he can use your box for illegaly actions, like CS.
How you feel to be the "sender" for other people?
How safe is that for you?If You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
i dont think this is why he locked the box with a password but its just to protect his clines. isnt this a regular way from gift senders? anyway after a problem i got a few weeks ago the new image and settings were done infrond of me and no move was made at the time. anyway i turn the box off at night or when i not home for same days.If my post was useful, please, use "Thanks" buttonComment

Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
@kostis, I don't feel to disagree with your "sysadmin" policy.
You got the point that he wants to protect his clines and I would say, not only clines, but all system stability.
It' the same thing when you bring your car to the dealer for service ... you are not allowed to mess things inside the engine and you have to trust him.
After all, he is the only responsible of the good working conditions of the system.
As a end user, you are simply the "driver" of your receiver.Comment

No my friend
The receiver is your's and no one must have access to it.
The "sender" must give you the gift with all necessary instructions.
You put the gift in your box and you have the full access for everything.
If you try to use the gift for other use, he can discover it easily.
How to protect his gifts, is a problem that he can solves on his own.
There are many ways for a good "sender" to protect his gifts.
Hi can use software on his device that can protects him from everything,
...but setting a password to your box by him... is the worst wayIf You Like My Post..... Please Press the Thanks ButtonComment

Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
kalpikos, I think all depends on the relations between the user and the "donor".
Take the case in which the user doesn't even know what is enigma2 or ftp etc. etc. here the user really doesn't care about password and other technical stuff ... he is only interested in watching sat tv and leaves to the donor/administrator all tasks (and responsibility) to run his receiver.
Different if the user wants himself to manage his receiver because he has the skills: in this case the donor would simply send the cline and say "ok, now it's all up to you and please, don't reshare". And would also say "don't complain with me if your system crashes or is unstable".
You see, there is not a universal rule "root password should be known by the user or not".Comment

Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
i had 3 senders so far and all of them did the flashing for my before i start learning my self the cs ways. the first one was the best and leave the same password but very expensive, the second lock it and i could not even stream to my pc. the money was less ant it never-never freeze it got all hotbirt channels, now the last one as i told before change the password and the first time he even lock tuxbox. i got a lot of freeze with him but he claims that its my box (before i used a dm500 and now a dm7000) and only a few channels work the discount from the second was not worth it. unfortunately i will have to wait until the end of my subscription. what i like to say its that when you got a local sender the like to put a password and the all say (even the one who let the default one) that its for security reasons. they claim that if the box its lock they cannot find the server. im still new in cs and really cant say if its true or not.If my post was useful, please, use "Thanks" buttonComment

Re: hack or bypass e1 e2 password
And if the password is secret for you too, it means the sender is afraid you could mess things inside the receiver (plugins that fill up var, wrong configs, etc. etc.)
Of course local user can reset or crack the password (if it's a weak password) but this is all another story.Comment
