    Re: Com1 port

Have you used the RS232 cable (null modem cable) on other devices and it works?
Some of these cables do not work.
For drembox you need 3 contacts only 2,3 and 5

        Thanks for the feedback peremacedonia,
An alternative is to use a USB to RS232 adaptor on your computer.

          Re: Com1 port

you should better use proper com port, new mainboards have com1 too but you need to plug an com bracket. these usb com ports are not always doing good.

                It is your choice.
You are right, it takes some time to set it up the first time.
                After that it is automatic.

I have the cable and it works nicely on my toshiba notepad.
You simply need to set the correct com port number like com4 or com9.
A USB to RS232 drivers are available all over the net.
                Just ****** and see.

An alternative LAN to RS232 adaptor is also available.

And did it work ?? ; a few weeks ago I also struggled with a com1 problem ; my findings are (on more than 1 computer): really has to be nullmodem cable (2+3 crossed + 5 - handshaking not necessary) - serial RS232 adapter to usb didn't work (Belki*n) - had to diasble windows firewall - adjusted the bits/sec to the values of the receiver. After doing all this, it worked fine.

Normally you should see if the com1 port is properly working without problems (configuration - system - hardware).

                          Hope this helps!

have you tried changing the com port speed of your computer. lower the speed and try again.
