sure. just can't remember whether it had an rs232 or usb port.

DM500s has no USB port.

just got hold of it now. it is indeed a dreambox 500-s with no usb port. just have to find my rs232 cable at home as i haven't used it for years. i plugged it in and it does power up. can't connect it to a tv since im at work.

ok, now i'm stuck. managed to find an rs232 cable, an old laptop with rs232 port but not sure what to do next. i already have the image but i think i need a program to flash it. (just like with my old technomate before.) once, flashed, will i lose all the previous settings? like satellites, the location (long/latitude)?
can someone pls give me a link to which ones i need? too much info out there don't know if i need all of them.

was able to get flash wizard pro, then i had the pli image from here. tried to dm500 boot test tool and said it was ok. when i used the flash wizard pro, and started to drag and drop the pli image, it said there was a connection error. check parameters. my ip address is correct so don't know what else is wrong.

Use dreamup for null modem cable..10 mins with dm500s...May i suggest a pli turko image which have all the cams installed..and are fantastic images...Hope this helps..

i thought dreamup was for a different purpose. i'll try it a bit later. just wasn't very sure with the connection. i have to connect the dm to my router and the router is also connected tk the pc, right? why do i have to connect it to the routerand input the ip address? will the null cable be enough?

No you connect your null modem cable to your pc and your box..nothing to do with router.You can only rescue your box with dreamup,flashwizard will not work now.I personally allways flash my box with dreamup as its then nice and clean flash.Hope this helps matey..

thanks. got the turko image. doing its thing now. just using the null modem to flash it. hopefully this works. 10 mins and it should finish. will try connecting it to the tv afterwards.
after less than a minute, it says aborted by user. but i didn't do anything. hmmm. strange

dont' either forget that the cable must be a null-modem cable, not a serial cable...

sorry, i'm not very technically minded with those diagrams.
i used this cable to flash other boxes before like technomate 1500 and a few cable receivers.
ping was ok and said that "ping result is ok, box is alive and speaking to us."
so i would imagine the cable is ok.

ok if you've already used this cable to flash something and it says ping is ok, that's a null modem
I just wanted to be sure..

you should erase flash several times before reflashing.
if it still doesn't work, try with another version of Dreamup (an older could work)

after some Googling it seems that Version of Dreamup - V1.2.2.0 sometimes solved the problem

the one i got from here was ver 1.3.3.5 and now using a lower version. what i tried differently as well is i erased the flash first. seems to be flashing it now.

success! the box is alive now! so i had to erase the flash first before i could reflash it. attached it to my tv and it is now showing the turko logo.
the next request is, can someone please share a channels list so that i could just edit my location (assuming it is the same principle as spiderbox) then the box can be used again.
all the help really appreciated.

got a channels list from here. need to do lots of reading...

i've already got a channels list yesterday but the problem i had was to to load the list onto the box. i used a program which i forgot what it was called but it couldnt communicate with my box. so i gave up in the end. i would perhaps leave it with my mate since he only wanted me to revive it.

Rember that even after loading any settings dro a ready made list, it is advisable to scan each satellite.
Your system setup may not be identical to the one in the list.

Just use DreamSet to play around with channels list from your box.
You do not need to resend the list back to your box untill you are happy with it.

box was collected last night by my mate. i showed it to him connected, while watching some channels. the code i got from server 4 worked so he was happy with it. i did advice hime that the code won't last long.
