yup that i learned very well

my damn cable was not as it was decribed it wasnt null modem crossover lesson for me dont buy anything on am*azon

i didnt understand that only 3 wire were suficient

hope this thread will help others in my case, i was so close to throw dm by window

i think now its time to close this thread and move on

finaly i managed to flash it thanks to everyone for great help Kalpikos you were right the cable was not good pin 2-3 were not crossed so i changed them and it worked great

it was sold as a "null modem" cable but it wasnt one thats what happen when you buy cheap cable

because after step 5 my dreamup is stuck on “Connection Prepared, now switch on the dreambox!”

so the null modem cable only need 3 wire all other are useless ?? ill try to make one if thats the case

Yes my friend, only 3 wires.

not all PC's/computers have a serial output
so he have to use a adaptor usb to serial
i have used that several times on my old db7000 and db800

You have been very lucky finding an adaptor capable of connecting pc - dm, but I think the most appropriate solution for sqazilou is to find another old pc with a serial port. Because that's the problem, the serial port.

You don't have to care about any IP.
Procedure for dm500 is different to dm800 or other dm.

All job must be done with null modem cable with only 3 wires as is shown in my photo.
No adapters , no usb.
Use only an old version of dreamup.
If you can't find an old version to work , tell me and i will send you ,tonight , the dreamup that works for me.

Unplug your dreambox from the mains
Disconnect all cables from dm.
Your PC must be turn off.

1. connect cable to PC and dm (com port)
2. turn on your PC and run Dreamup and then
select your correct PC Serial Port
3. Untick “Use Network”
4. Click Connect
5. When you see the on screen message “Connection Prepared, now switch on the dreambox!” now plug in your dreambox
6. Click erase Flash
7. when this done, Click Flash and navigate to the image file on your PC
8. After installation is complete, exit DreamUp
9. Unplug your dreambox from the mains and wait at least 1 min.
10. Plug in your dreambox and wait for it to boot into setup mode

If you can't connect , probably you have damaged you dm's com port or bootloader.
Try the solution with Jtag cable.
Find someone that know this job beacuse is a little complicated.

The serial port on both the pc and the dreambox are very easily damaged by static electricity so the cable must be connected while off before switching on. You could have damaged port of db500s.
Keep trying anyway.

i have allways plug in while computer was on ill try to switch off and then retry

ill come back with feedback

I think that looks ok.
To connect this the pc must be switched off and dreambox or you will do damage. Definitely both off, serial ports are not like usb, not hot plug.
Any way you can check the lead for crossover of pins 2 and 3.

I thought rs232 cable was the same as null modem cable too, maybe thats it.
