You cant just use a rs232 cable it has to be a null modem cable as Kalpikos says, its similar to rs232 but has leads 2 and 3 on one plug connected to reverse on the the other plug. Pin 2 on one goes to pin3 on the other and pin3 on one to pin 2 on the other. It wont work without null modem properly but may slightly work. Poor flash maybe.

i received it thursday, my first flash by ftp transfer of pli image worked fine then i wanted to reflash it with an older gemini image without bomb, by same way ftp file transfer; and thats when it was freezed and i reboot & i got nothing but black screeen now.

i cant get an idea if its the box or anything else, because my other box dm600 isn't responding by rs232 therefore its fully working !

this is making me crazy .....

You say that you cant connect to a dm600 that does work.
Try ethernet cable to router from pc and another ethernet cable to dm600 from router.
If you have xp go to start - run - type in cmd then at prompt type ping (dm600s ip address) Dont know about any other operating system. That will test dm600 and your pc.
Get that working before you try the dm500s reflash.

dm600 is not detected by rs232, but by ethernet cable everything works fine

I wouldn't use the term bricked, I would just say faulty, end of its life.
because its not responding via the rs232 cable.

btw how long has it been in use for?

thats the problem i cant get an ip adress i got only black screen and i tried differrent pc and no one could be detected,

and i would like to say that i trie to connect a dm600 wich is fully working and neither it can be detected so where is the probleme i cannot say,

anyway if you have a dreamup version for dm500

have you tried uploading the image directly via the rs232 cable?, I know its slow but thats another option.

btw any dreamup will work with any dreamboxm, just use the latest version which I believe is 1.3.3

the null modem cable has saved my dm800 a few times, good to have one just incase.

i dont know how you flash a dm500 with rs232 cable but I think it will be very similar how its done with dm800.

so here how its done on dm800 but I think it should be the same method for dm500

1) Use DreamUp 1.3.3 with serial (null modem) cable
2) Choose COM1, connect, power ON DM800 and wait
3) After a few seconds the DM800 screen will come back with an IP address
4) Type in that address in IE
5) Flash first a BootLoader (ex: bl76.nfi) reboot DM800 and hold power button
7) Wait for IP to appear on DM800 screen
8)Type in that address in IE
9) Flash your desired image

Hello my friend.

First of all you must know that never flash a clone dm500 by ethernet. Only Dreamup you must use.
Newest versions of Dreamup have many problems with dm500, so try an older version.

You must find a null modem cable , not a rs232 cable.


You have to connect this cable directly to pc (9 Pin DB9 ) , a not to usb adapter etc.

If you can't connect to dm ,,, the only way is Jtag repair.

i try to flash my dm500(clo*ne) by ethernet but it crashed and my dreambox was freezed so i reboot and now i got a black screeen only

i tried before to flash it by a rs232 cable but my computer cannot detect to the box, i tried 2 different cable & 3 different computer but i cannot flash it again and i try with several version of dreamup

any help
