hi could some nice people give me some advice about dreambox, ie. what are images, enigma files, flashes, etc, go easy with the tec stuff.

Dreambox is basically a computer that has a Linux operating system on it.

The Dreambox looks like any normal tv set top box although in my opinion it looks nicer than most.

Software is written that allows the box to act just like a tv receiver plus it can be used as a jukebox,
videorecorder, weather center, email and message etc.

You dont need to know anything about the Linux operating system but you do need to know how to
transfer files from your pc.

Dm works with almost all cards inserted in card slots.

Dm also is programmable and can be connected to the Internet
via a home router connected to the Internet.
It is programmed to receive decryption codes from a remote PC
or a dreambox somewhere on the internet (card sharing)

An image for Dreambox is a linux operating system and when you flash an image the only thing you do is to load
an operating system to your dreambox.

Enigma 1 is a generally name of images for dreambox that can't receive HD channels (SD models).
Enigma 2 is for HD channels (HD models)

Dreambox as a Pc can run programms (plugins - addons)
Also you have dozens of options with your Dreambox, as the open-source software allows you to modify
many options and settings, just the way you like.

There are models from 200E - 1000E
1 tuner, dual tuner, HD etc

Also there are clone models with less money but the quality of them is not the same.

Dreambox i think is the best receiver.

very useful post from you kalpikos, i shall print that off for future reference, it has cleared a lot up, so really if i was going to purchase one its best to go for a dm800 hd of course, and the clone is just a cheaper version but not as good.

For a beginer like you I suggest an original DM800HD if the money is't a problem for you.

Also you can save about 100E if you take a DM500HD which is a very very good model with similar abilities as dm800.

Of course you can buy a clone of them but at your own risk.

money will not really be the problem but when i do get i think it will be the dm500, so must stay clear of clones (original best) i know i can always ask for help on this forum.

Of course you can ask for help and i think there are many people who know the secrets of a dreambox.

Don't forget that dreambox is the receiver with bigest support.
Images, applications, plugins, addons, ke*s, and many many others.

Also there are many guides and tutorials in this forum that will help you.
