Network disapear after 48 hours of service.

My network connection hangs after roughly 48 hours of service (after reboot).
This is very strange, like if there was a timeout or buffer overflow somewhere.

Have you heard about similar issues ?

I had a similar issue with USB Wifi, are you using a USB Wifi stick?
If you are using USB Wifi then you change your wifi channel number on your router.

No, it is not wifi, but it is a powerline communication (PLC)

Same problem with a wifi dongle. Only a shut down and power down sorts the problem.

Have you tried plugging it directly to the router and see if the same problem comes again, if doesn't then you know it caused by the powerline communication

I will investigate a bit more with a direct cable. But that's not very convenient.
If I can't solve this easily I will put a script in the crontab to launch a reboot every night.

you need to be careful auto reboot script, it may conflict with your PVR Timer.
btw which dreambox do you own? why don't you try a USB Wifi dongle?

                I use a DM800 HD PVR.
As I have adiitional devices connected to internet (TV + HDD multimedia), I have a setup where all devices are connected to a Hub, and the Hub is connected to the PLC.
The other PL is connected to my DSL router.

is it a clone or a genuine one?
did you check with dmesg if you see anything?

consider buying a USB Wifi dongle, Im using one on my dm800 and its work fine.
compatible USB Wifi that are compatible with dm800 are ones with ‘Ralink RT73′ or ‘ZD1211B’ chipset.

But where can I find that USB wifi dongle ?

Are there any recommended models ? I would like to avoid buying unfonctional material.
Is there a list of compatibles sticks ? If yes, where ?

eBay is probably the best place to buy, most seller dont tell you what chipset they use. there are many USB Wifi Brands that use ‘Ralink RT73′ or ‘ZD1211B’ chipset. so you need to ask the Seller which chipset they use.
as long it uses ‘Ralink RT73′ or ‘ZD1211B’ chipset, they will work on dm800.

So, I will do that to solve this issue.
I will however investigate on the dmesg, just in case I missed something.
I will give a last update tomorrow morning.

Re: Network disapear after 48 hours of service.

At last I found that the issue is coming from the router box.
With no warning my ISP has proceeded to a firmware update, which seems buggy.
I saw that there are similar symptoms with other connections (even wifi). This is linked to DHCP operation. I haven't been able to find which DHCP parameter should be tweaked (and even if it is possible).

I will therefore write a specific script that every night stop the network, disable the card, reanable it and lounch the network.

Anyway, thanks all of you for your suggestions !

Issue is solved, it was due to lease time of DHCP.
So i assigned a range on router from 192.168.1.1.2 to 192.168.1.100 (192.168.1.1 is router itself)
I assigned in the router the mac adress of dreambox to 192.168.1.101
I disabled DHCP in dreambox, and set the fixed ID.

No after 4days, there hasn't been any network lost !!!! )))
