Its like a STB like other boxes. If you like to experiments, then you go for images and software, If not then use it with ease.

They are great as a server or client or even both, What you have to ask yourself is do you get a clone ( Very Good now most problems have been ironed out ) or do you get original nearly double and a bit inprice but you wont brick it if you load the wrong image on it.

My advice dont rule out any other enigma 2 boxes they are all as good as each other its just the DM has more support.

I'll speak from my experience - I have a DM800HD clone and works fine, it's not super rapid in changing channels but that's the processor speed... If you need to use it like server the only things needed are a good ISP and good peers / cards and you'll have a good response from the box (ping less than 80ms) and a very stable server.

                  I have dm800 for ! year now
Beside the very good support and the good thing you will hear
                  I'll tell you bad aspects:

1- booting and rebooting is very slow
2- the internal fan become noisy with time and you have to replace it
3- the receiver gets very hot with use and you have to find another cooling source for it
