    Multi-Editing System 2.04

Can be used for the entry and modification of multiple text based files

The Multi-Editing System (or MESS for short) application was developed to be a small program used for the entry and modification of multiple text based files. A text file is similar to a word processing file except it does not contain any formatting information. Autoexec.bat, config.sys, win.ini, and system.ini are all common examples of text files that MESS can read, modify, and save.

Here are some key features of "Multi-Editing System":

    · Added "Select All" text option.
    · Pressing Shift + Tab will insert a tab character into the current document even if the soft tabs option is turned on.
    · Increased the amounts of undos that may be done.
    · Added default buttons to the "Find" and "Find and Replace" dialog boxes.
    · Added support for the DOS Edit program's shortcut keys of Cut - Shift + Del, Copy - Ctrl + Ins and Paste - Shift + Ins.
    · The text editor can open and edit UNIX style text files.
    · Screen flicker noticeable at high resolutions (e.g. 800x600 or 1024x768) when the cursor is moved or text is entered has been eliminated.
    · The cursor can now be set to move beyond the end of a line or the end of a file.
    · The scroll bars offer improved support by better reflecting what portion of a document is currently visible.
    · The text editor can now open and edit files that contain more than 32,767 lines of text.
    · The text editor has support for undoing multiple edit actions.
    · The text editor can be set to automatically delete extraneous spaces and tab characters from the end of a line.
    · Double clicking the left button when the mouse cursor is over a word marks the complete word.
    · The find routines have been tuned for increased search speed.
    · Before a document is printed a sample of what the selected font will appear on the printer is shown.
    · When the choice of a font selection is available each font now has it's type represented with a small picture. (E.g. A device font for a printer has a printer icon next to it's name, a TrueType font has a TrueType icon next to it's name, etc.)
    · Device and raster fonts are now selections when the choice of these font are available. (In Version 1.00 TrueType fonts were the only available choices.)
    · Documents that have been modified or are read-only have better representation in the Folder menu and in the document's folder tab.
    · The active document may be sent as an attachment to an electronic mail message if a MAPI compliant mail system is present.
    · The document contained within a folder is represented with it's shell icon instead of a generic color.
    · Better integration with Explorer via DDE support.
    · The application can be installed under a common group of Windows NT and be used by different users who use the workstation.
    · Application may be configured to save all recently opened documents to the current user's Documents menu located within the Start menu.
    · The Go to Line dialog box now supports selecting a line that is relative to the current line. (Example: The current line number is 10 and the desired line number is 8. Entering a line number of -2 selects the line two rows away from the cursor's current line number.)
    · Searches are now interactive and integrate into the application's work area to prevent the search dialog box from blocking important information contained within the active document.

    · When the delete key was pressed on a column with no text underneath the application would sometimes crash. (Fixed in Version 2.04)
    · If a Replace All search was executed where the line that the cursor resided on was located in the top portion of the document that was not visible and there was phrases to be replaced, then the application would hang. (Fixed in Version 2.04)
    · When the backspace key was pressed that caused the current line to be appended to the end of the previous line and the previous line contained a tab character the cursor's column position would not reflect the correct position. (Fixed in Version 2.04)
    · Under rare circumstances when a find was executed and there was a phrase already highlighted and the search phrase resided next to the highlighted text the first matching instance would be skipped. (Fixed in Version 2.04)
