DiskMax is an easy-to-use utility that helps users clear their computers of unneeded, space-wasting files. With three levels of customizable scans, DiskMax makes it easy to free up valuable disk space.
DiskMax's interface is quite plain and simple. Users simply click on Quick, Standard, or Detailed to select the type of scan they want to perform. We wish that the interface itself explained what was involved in which type of scan, but the Help file--which must be downloaded separately from the creator's Web site--does contain details about each one. The Quick scan, for example, scans only the Recycle Bin and user profile, while the Standard scan adds such areas as the Windows update, event logs, and defragmentation. With each step the program asks users whether they want to delete unneeded files, and users can choose whether they want the program to remember their responses for future scans. Overall, we found DiskMax to be quite effective and easy to use. Our only major issue with it--one that we have with almost all programs of this type--is that users should make sure that they know what they're deleting before allowing the program to get rid of so-called junk files. The Help file provides more guidance than we typically see from such programs, which we appreciated, but users may wish to do further research before proceeding.
