OpenWrt on Tplink W8970

Hi all,
I'd like to download this firmware on my modem router Tplink W8970.
I already bought the CP2102 USB to TTL to avoid the Tplink protection.
This software let's do a lot of thing respect the original one: the thing that interests to me is the fact to let run on Modem a torrent client in order to download just with the router leaving the pc OFF.
Unfortunaly reading on the OpenWrt forum I didn't understand which files I have to download.
Since I dont like to brick my new modem router could anyone describe the procedure (if known)?
Thanks.

How are you going to download anything to your modem if your pc is switched off,
You will not be able to see what you are downloading.

It still does not explain how to download with your PC off.
You need to see what you are downloading.
Also with the pc off how are you going to save anything, your router will not store anything.

true ...

the idea here is to flash (some adequate) modem
with linux dedicated modem router firewall distro ( that is openwrt for Tplink W8970)
including some additionnal linux/gnu pgm
such as downloader.

how to save and store? some modem supports an usb port, so usb sticks

this way, you've got a cheap energy linux dowloader

---

this idea can be augmented with raspberry linux or siemens futro
as commented here

There is more than one torrent sw client that you van download on you router. You can save on a USB that the router provide or store directly on a nas :-)

Am I missing the point here, with your pc turned off how are you going to see what you are connecting to. and you cannot see what you are telling the router what to connect to.
Also what is the point of getting your router to do this,
Ok you can give the router various commands and it can do it, but it seems like a invention for a square wheel I don't think there will be a rush to get one, what is the point of having a up to date pc and switching it of so you can use a router that is as thick as two short planks.

i repeat,

the idea is to flash the tplink device
with an appropriate linux image

to turn it into linux remote station,

with:

+ modem
+ router + firewall
+ switch facilities
+ linux dedicated station services (like a remote download center, or something else, as you want)

now, will be a rush to get this manip ?
no except for interested geeks ...

invention ... square wheel
And yet it moves

the point of having a up to date pc
the idea here is precisely not having a dedicated downloader pc

Usually these routers with modded firmware have a web interface showing what's going on ... so you choose what to download, from where and check the download progress.
Of course you have to use a pc (or smartphone) to connect to router and access to webif.

Basically it's only for energy saving purposes.

Your router may contain a hard reset button on the back or possibly inside, the instructions in the wiki seem easy enough to understand.

I wouldn't flash this router with openwrt.
- on the wiki -
Firstly - DO NOT upgrade to the 28.08.2013 (or newer) firmware on TP-Link website. It has modified u-boot, and applies a NEW UNKNOWN header - first byte is 0x03. We don't know how is it working. It seems to be a rsa signed firmware upgrade. Flashing over serial & bootloader works. I wouldn't worry about that: it only means that latest routers cannot be upgraded to OpenWrt using web interface, but it can always be done via serial or tftp.

Sorry if i correct you. It can be done using a usb ttl converter. Serial has 12v level while ttl has 3.3v. Anyway the voltafe pin must not be connected.
I hsve ordered one from a chinese seller, when it arrived i' ll flash to openwrt.
